Weyland’s Whey New Moon and January 21st–February 17th 2026 Rowan Moon Column

The Thirteen Months of the Celtic Tree Calendar are associated with sacred trees. They symbolize qualities and individual growth through the cycles of nature. This calendar is a modern construct which comes from the work of Robert Graves, poet and author of The White Goddess (1948). He based his ideas upon his own interpretations of the Ogham alphabet, Celtic mythology, selenic cycles and poetic symbolism.

The Rowan Moon is frequently called “The Tree of Protection”. It’s aligned with spiritual strength and intuition, shielding and higher knowledge. The Celts thought Rowan trees–which have red berries and white flowers–were good for magical work due to their protective traits. These trees are useful for meditation and personal protection spell work.

The next new moon is in Capricorn and occurs on Sunday, January 18th. Called the New Snow Moon, it’s a great time for responsibilities and long-term goals. Focus on self-discipline and grounded intentions, which will be enhanced by the Capricorn influences of stability and determination. Plan for the future, define real and durable success on your own terms.

The Wrap Up: Wey’s Opinion. Times are tough, Pilgrim, and growing even tougher, so get going. Make a plan. Then make a Plan B. Maybe even a Plan C. Meditate on ’em, pray about them–then act. Think long term. And don’t forget to stash all your rent money inside the wall safe ahead of time. Use real-world safeguards as well as protection spells all along the way. Buena suerte.

Monday, January 19th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He had a dream. For all of us.

TV Review: “Oh, Rob!” Long-running show American Masters chronicles the life and career of one of the greats in Starring Dick Van Dyke. The performer, who recently turned 100, was not only a marvelous actor, but a master of physical comedy as well. Some of his bits truly have to be watched to be believed–you’ll swear that man’s body was made of rubber! S. 39, Ep. 7. PBS. 5 broomsticks.

“From the Sky Will Come.” Nostradamus: Prophet of Doom. This Biography rerun tracks the life and teaching of the French astrologer and physician. Story Television. My verdict: 4 broomsticks.

One More Thing: I recently discovered the podcast Positively Wiccan. I like it!
