Hally’s Hints
UNIVERSAL LANGUAGES I see the beauty of the plants growing in each and every direction subtly oblivious of where they should and can go. They seek the warmth and energy of the sun, sourcing moisture from the earth and air. All else is irrelevant; all else has no consequence to their day. The days come and the days go. The sun rises and the sun sets. The clouds pass over, sometimes bringing rain and other times a moment of a shadow. There are no conscious thoughts in these actions. There are contributing factors influencing the direction, however it isn’t premeditated or in a manipulative manner. It is all for the…

Pagan Theology
Pagan theology short: religious tradition Is Paganism a religious tradition? The sensible answer is “of course”. But lets think about this a little be more. First, I guess it depends on how you define “religious,” “tradition,” and “religious tradition.” In some sense this is the same as asking if Paganism is a religion (which common sense again says it is) [1]. But I’d say its also more than simply asking if Paganism’s a religion, it also asks whether Paganism has a connection through time. Not sure exactly what its connected through time to, but a connection nonetheless. It could be a connection to a historical tradition, or it could be…

Coming Home
Some feel it physically. It’s a tingle in the spine or a rush of blood all over the body. Some describe it as an overwhelming blast to the mind where open-eyed visions come and go so quickly you can’t really recognize what they are. Nearly everyone says it’s an intense feeling of ‘rightness’ where you ‘just know’ you’re where you should be in this universe. You’ve come home. That’s the phrase Pagans have adopted to describe what is felt by many who discover us and who have a magical and spiritual awakening. It is an epiphany when they encounter our way of looking at things. Not everyone experiences it. That…

Well the weather is changing once again and the smell of wet leaves is permeating through the air and I just cannot believe another month has passed since our last correspondence. New to the Craft
Symbolism of the Pentagram Symbols have held a special place with humankind across all cultures and ages. Our brains are wired for language, itself a symbolic system substituting words for objects and concepts we know from experience. The object you are sitting on is not inherently a “chair” anymore than it is a “chaise” or “silla”. The individual words are arbitrary, but they serve the important purpose of allowing people to reference the same idea without constantly having to point to it in the physical world. Imagine trying to have a conversation where the only things you can allude to are “this” or “that”! Language allows us to advance from…

Fervent wishes that your celebrations were merry, joyful, and full of love and family. This month is a special time of year for the witch, druid, or any pagan. Fazes: The Moon and Her Wonders
)0( October Moon Report )0( “The Moon wedded the Sun In the first spring. The Sun rose early at dawn, The Moon wandered alone Courting the morning star. Perkunas was wroth, He clect the Moon with a sword.” (From U Katzenelenbogen: The Daina: An Anthology of Lithuanian and Latvian Folk Songs) The moon is usually seen as a female symbol, and was worshipped in ancient times as a powerful force through most cultures. It is believed to be linked to the unconscious, our psychic and feminine side. The sacredness of the moon has been connected with the basic cyclic rhythms of life. The changing phases of the moon were linked…

Role of a Mentor
Spiritual art “In the beginning God created man, then man returned the favor,” states a witty quip. To me, that conjures up images of all types of art of a spiritual nature. Humanity has been making depictions of gods and goddesses as well as magickal beings for untold thousands of years. Few religions, notably Judaism and Islam, forbid such art. Sometimes the practice has been denounced as idolatry, but it has been found in an amazing variety of cultures, belief systems, locations and time periods. Perhaps the oldest such depiction is the Venus of Willendorf, carved about 25,000 years ago and discovered in 1908 in Austria. This statuette is only…
