Stars, Cards, and Stones is a beautifully designed and illustrated hardcover book that discusses the three most popular divination methods: Astrology, Tarot and the Elder Futhark Runes. Anyone looking to learn the basics of Astrology, and combine that information with Tarot and Rune wisdom, combining them for a unique and in-depth reading, either for oneself or for others. The author starts by examining basics of Astrology, the Zodiac, and the Planets, which is built upon in the following sections concerning the Runes and Tarot.
The author presents her unique style of reading, combining one Planet/Zodiac, one Rune, and one Tarot card. These readings can be tapped for any multitude of reasons, from the most mundane and silly, to the most serious of issues. While I personally don’t practice this form of divination, as I believe it muddies the waters too much, those who are newer to divination may find it to be refreshing, allowing for a more intuitive approach, while still learning the basics and “book meanings” of the cards, stones, etc. Towards the end of the book, everything is tied together and spreads, ideas and examples are given. The sections covering the Runes and Tarot are fairly in-depth, with enough material for even more intermediate readers to sink their teeth into.
I chose this book out of curiosity and I have to say, it’s interesting, but just not for me. I don’t like combining runes and astrology, it’s never worked well for me. As a matter of fact, I would argue that Astrology readings are more of a stand-alone type of reading, whereas Tarot and Runes can play off one another and provide a pretty clear picture of the situation. That said, this is a great book for the beginning diviner, with interests in multiple systems of divination. If you or someone you know or care about has been looking to learn divination, and has an interest in these three systems specifically, I would highly recommend this book. I don’t have any major critiques, this book just wasn’t for me. I give it a 4/5 pentagram rating.
