A World Re-Enchanted June 2025
The month of June has arrived and the energies have shifted from that of Spring to the time of Summer and we kick off that change with a month focused on the aspect of fire.
Within Tolkien based spirituality and especially for those of us in Way of Arda’s Lore fire holds a deep significance. It is held as the second most important concept next to Music.
The reason fire is so vital has to do with the Flame Imperishable also called the Secret Fire. Ilúvatar used this fire which has the power of creation, to bring everything to life. He placed within the Elves, Humans, Dwarves and all other a piece of this fire and it gives us life. After the time of creation, the Flame Imperishable was placed in the center of Arda indicating that our planet is truly alive as well.
It is also during this month when talking about Varda and her creation of the Sun and the Moon that we address something that differs in Tolkien Spirituality verses most other paths of paganism.
Since this month focuses on the Sun it is fitting to mention that in this spiritual path the Sun has a feminine energy since it is the Maiar Arien a spirit of fire who guides the sun through the sky. She is said to have eyes too bright for even the Eldar/Elves to look upon. The properties of the sun remain the same but the energies are female and life giving.
It is the moon in this spiritual path that is masculine as the Maiar Tilion he was a hunter and formally part of the company of Oromë. It is said that Tilion was drawn to the Moon’s silver light and requested the task of guiding it.

Full Moon of June – Isilnárië
The full moon of June is dedicated to the Valar called Varda Elentari the Queen of the Stars. It is during this time that the energy of the fire can be called upon to change all aspects of our lives but also to recharge the Flame Imperishable as can be the holiday Tarnin Austa. Here is an incantation for connecting with Varda during the June full moon and recharging the Flame Imperishable.
O Varda Elentári, Star-kindler, Flame-bearer, Queen of the Heavens,
I lift my spirit unto your light, where the stars sing in silence and the night knows your name.
From the high mansions of Ilmarin, where the winds carry the echoes of Ainuric song, incline thine ears to my voice.
As Isil waxes full and the sky is veiled in argent glory, I open the chamber of my heart unto you.
Let the light of the full moon, crowned in the breath of stars, be a pathway between us.
Let it touch the still places within, where the Flame Imperishable dwells hidden and waiting.
In the hush of this sacred hour, I seek neither shadow nor worldly desire.
I seek remembrance — of the Fire that was before time, of the Light that endures beyond all veils.
O Lady of the Stars, renew within me the secret spark that sings of Ilúvatar’s first breath.
Unbind the dimness gathered by days and awaken the inner flame to its true brilliance.
Where doubt has dulled, kindle clarity.
Where weariness has crept, pour the strength of Telperion’s memory.
Where the soul forgets, let your light recall.
I offer no riches, only stillness.
I offer no sacrifice, only longing.
I offer no command, only surrender beneath your vast and holy sky.
As Isilnárië shines in fullness, let your grace descend like dew upon the fire within.
And let it burn — not as consuming blaze, but as steadfast Light that neither fades nor falters.
So shall I walk as one who bears the Flame Imperishable,
Silent, watchful, and filled with starlight,
Until the end and the beginning become one again.
Valar of June is Varda Elentari
Varda Elentari is the wife of Manwe and as such she is the Queen of the Valar, Queen of Arda, Queen of the Stars, Lady of the Stars.
She knows all of the regions of Ea and rejoiced in light. She is too beautiful for words to describe as within her face the light of Iluvatar is said to radiate. Of all the Valar she is the most loved and revered by the Elves as she created the stars upon which the Elves gazed when the first awoke on Arda.
It is she that the Elves called upon in their darkest hours for she holds the shinning white light in which no shadow may be seen.
Before the Music of the Ainur was sung, it was Varda who had looked into Melkor’s mind and saw who he really was and as such she rejected him. For this he both feared and hated her the most of all the Valar.
She resides with Manwe and through her he is able to see all of the corners of Arda through the darkness and the mist and through him she is able to hear all the voices from every corner of the world.
It is Varda who set not only individual stars but also the constellations such as the Sickle of the Valar or as Humans call it the Big Dipper, which can be used in Tolkien Spirituality for protection from demons and dark spirits.
After the Darkening of Arda when the two trees Telperion and Laurelin were destroyed, it was Arda who took the flower from Telperion and the fruit from Laurelin to create the Sun and the Moon. It was she who set the course they follow through the sky and thus we have day and night.
It is she who helped to hide Valinor after Manwe decreed that it would be hidden and thus she did so making it impossible for any living thing to find again the way westward to the sacred shores.
At the end of the First Age, she set the Star of Eärendil in the night sky and it is this star that can be seen both in the evening sky and the early morning sky the brightest. It is this star in the night sky that we now know in the present day and age as the planet Venus.
Tarnin Austa
This holiday is known as the Gates of Summer and was a great feast held in the city of Gondolin upon which songs were sung on the morning of the longest day of the year also known in modern times as the Summer Solstice.
It is customary to begin a solemn ceremony that starts at midnight with silence and that silence continues until dawn when upon the rising of the sun it is broken by breaking into song. At this time the city is filled with silver lamps and lights of jeweled colors hung on the branches of the new-leafed trees.
It is during this day that feasting and festivities are to be had. It is also during this day that meditations can be done and also any magical workings that an individual might want to do on this special day.
While Tolkien only even mentions the ancient songs but never provides lyrics to them. Below is something created in the modern day and age that is written in a style that could have been used in those times since Tolkien never wrote them down.
Alata nírë, Anar calima
“Radiant tear, Sun shining”
Bright is the dew upon the stair of Idril,
and the winds that stir the banners are hushed in awe.
Golden light spills over the wall of the mountains,
touching the silver towers with the promise of day.
Aredhel’s son walks forth in silence,
and the guards lower their spears in reverence.
Even the fountains hold their breath,
as Laurelin’s heir rises in the sky.
We remember the cleaving of ice,
the dark north behind us,
and the long wandering through shadow and ash.
But here the light is full and unmarred,
and no whisper of Morgoth’s breath defiles it.
Behold the bloom of the white alfirin,
that opens only when the stars retreat.
It drinks the light of dawn without sorrow,
for this is the day long hidden in the heart of night.
Children of the Hidden Rock, awaken.
Let your voices rise with the larks of the vale.
The Gates are flung wide to the glory beyond them,
and the eyes of the Valar turn again toward us.
Tarnin Austa is come.
Let no shadow touch this hour.
Let the lamplight of Elbereth fade before Anar’s crown.
Let all memory be stilled in the warmth of this flame.
