Book Review – Astrology of Love and Sex: A Modern Compatibility Guide by Annabel Gat

Book Review Astrology of Love and Sex: A Modern Compatibility Guide by Annabel Gat 288 pages Bright Blessings! If you are like me, you study Astrology, and learn all you can about yourself, and your loved ones. You see patterns in personalities and behaviors based on signs, and learn why those happen. I have been learning since I was a kid! I like a good guide written by educated Astrologers, not amateurs like myself, and I like something I can take home, and hold onto. By that, I mean a book worth paying for, and worth using long term. Enter Annabel Gat! She is certified by the International Society for…

Rainman Bright Blessings, Film Lovers! For this month’s film, I decided to review one that has been well loved for decades. It is award winning, and was a groundbreaking, intimate look at the lives, and the love of people who have autism. Rainman. Here is a trailer of the film you can watch. The film starts in the fast, trendy, and loud life of Charlie Babbitt, played by Tom Cruise. He’s on the verge of sealing a major sales deal, which would profit him $75K. He’s got an amazing, kind hearted girlfriend named Susanna. He’s young, healthy, good looking, and it seems like everything is going his way. He heads…

Celebrating The Old Ways in New Times

Celebrating The Old Ways in New Times For August 2019 Bright Blessings! Lughnasadh is upon us, and is it ever hot! We are due to have heat advisories the next two, possibly three days in my town, and the dog is displeased with how short of a distance I allow her for walks. Exacerbating that is the fact they decided to pour asphalt on our street, so I don’t even want to go outside at all. I spend a lot of time outdoors but truthfully, I don’t remember ever having the issues with heat that I have this year. Have I ever changed! I can remember I thought my mother…

Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times

Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times July 2019 Bright Blessings! It is almost Summer Solstice, and I realize I get to pick the topic as there is no Sabbat next issue! Well…we are getting a lot of rain in Central Ohio, and on one hand, my plants just LOVE it, and it means I do not have to water them. Do those of you who garden notice that plants prefer being watered by rain than hose watering? Mine do! So, on one hand, I cannot really complain, but SO much rain! I remember some years ago, one June, it rained for nineteen days straight. NINETEEN. I am seeing stories…

Bright Blessings, film lovers! With massive amounts of rain this month in my home State, floods have been on my mind, and I was going to re-watch An Inconvenient Truth, but discovered Before The Flood was available on Netflix, and I just could not resist. Lauded as a ground-breaking, engaging film addressing serious issues of our time, this film did not disappoint, and I want all of you to watch it if you haven’t already. Here is the entire film on You Tube you can watch: A National Geographic film directed by Fisher Stevens, it was narrated by Leo DiCaprio. It follows DiCaprio’s three-year journey that took him across the…

Celebrating The Old Ways in New Times

June 2019 for Celebrating The Old Ways in New Times Bright Blessings! I write this on the 18 of May, and it is above 80 degrees, and feels and smells like Summertime already! I can hardly believe how fast the Wheel of the Year is turning! I could write a lot about which plants are doing what, but I thought it would be better to show you. I decided I would focus on planting as much on the patio as possible this year, and you can see that is going very well. Raised beds are a great favorite of mine! I proudly share my photos. In the front, you can…

Review of Woodland Wand Creation Shop on Etsy

Bright Blessings! My beautiful editor Jennifer sent me a gorgeous wand from Woodland Wand Creation to review. First let me say, I am a rare witch. I do not use wands to cast! I occasionally use my athame, but other than that, I use my hands. I have often admired pretty wands in shops and online, but I have never bought one. I am a minimalist sort of witch! I use few tools for magical working, and I save a lot of money on candles, as I just buy white tealights and consecrate them as needed. But in reviewing this item, and taking it for a “test run”, I can…

Book Review – Becoming Dangerous: Witchy Femmes, Queer Conjurers, and Magical Rebels Edited by Kate West and Jasmine Elliott

Book Review Becoming Dangerous: Witchy Femmes, Queer Conjurers, and Magical Rebels Edited by Kate West and Jasmine Elliott I was lucky to be sent this amazing anthology of personal power narratives to review. Twenty-one personal essays by the same amount of contributors are united by one theme- sometimes, things happen that do NOT want to see us become our best selves, and they go out of their way to try to keep us from thriving. These writers share their personal way they claimed what was theirs, through personal ritual, and tenacity, and how they shine brightly despite everything. These inspirational stories of hope, strength, and triumph deal with topics ranging…

Logan’s Run Bright Blessings, film lovers! I don’t know about you, but I love sci fi from the 1970’s. The more simplified special effects, and the groovy take on “futuristic style” dazzles the eye! The music, and costumes, and the theatrical style acting is more dramatic, and more fun in my opinion than the modern realistic films. In sci fi, I want a new reality, not one I feel could happen today in my world. I watched Logan’s Run for this reason, and just for enjoyment. It delivers, but I also realized, there are some magical truths in it! Here is the trailer you can watch! It’s an MGM film…

Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times

May 2019 for Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times Bright Blessings I write this with a sore back from beginning the garden. I have planted seeds for snow peas, radishes, milkweed, and sunflowers so far, and a few packs of annuals as well. I nabbed more seeds, ordered three more seed catalogs, and got a couple of hot pink pots! Not bad for the first week of gardening. This year, I am doing the unthinkable! I am killing a mint plant! I’m doing it so I can pull a shrub behind it and use the space for more, well…PLANTS! The roots of the mint would take over the space…
