Myths and Legends: Journeys Through Time
Samhain I realize that it’s completely the wrong month for a halloween article…but in a way it isn’t. January is the start of the new year for many people. Moved up from April 1st which is now called April Fool’s day. In my family…we have two new years. We have our personal new year which is on Halloween. And then we have the actual New Year on January 1st.. For as long as I could remember…every halloween, my mother has said “Happy Halloween, Happy New Year.” I never understood it until I was older and actually started researching Halloween and the pagan religion. Being a 3rd generation Pagan…it’s been interesting…

Prunings from the Hedge
Rebirth from Chaos In the Craft traditions I’ve learned, Samhain marks the point in the year when the Lady retires to the Summerland for the winter, the Wild Hunt ranges abroad, the Holly King becomes the hoary Lord of Misrule and presides over winter celebrations, and the World, that is, the local cosmos, starts to return to its underlying chaos. In the Ogham Tree calendar, as reconstructed by Robert Graves in The White Goddess, most of November lies within the lunar month of the Reed, and has the tag from the Rune of Amergin that proclaims “I am a threatening noise of the sea.” Ngetal, the Reed month, is succeeded…

Pagan Theology
Coincidence and magic The young boy loved camping, particularly the fire building parts. Tonight they were deep in the woods, staying under the stars in tents with families from the circle. The adults knew that he loved fire making and had asked him to tend the ritual bonfire. All during the ritual he’d been seeing shadows coming and going from the edge of the circle. The Old Gods seemed to be out tonight, but that wasn’t something he worried about. That stuff was for his mom. He just liked the camping. The circle was just opened and he turned to go get some more wood for the fire. There, staring…

Hally’s Hints
What is 2012 all About? I keep seeing posts upon posts of people providing their version of what they believe this to be, what it will bring and what to prepare for. I discovered all of this over twelve months ago when I asked the question from the powers that be. The world is not going to end, it isn’t going to be Armageddon and the Age of Aquarius isn’t going to all of a sudden hit us with a metaphysical baseball bat, particularly given that each age lasts for two thousand years and we are only at the beginning of this age. Think about this from a logical perspective…

Musings of a Massachusetts Witch
Sophia This is noon time, this is mine, tranquility – The sound of the gong, An echo, intelligent note Caressing with the wisdom Of what psychic visions will appear in my mind. I hold her in my arms. It is happiness. The full tone saturates my brain. Her small arms encircle my neck. It is in this place where I encounter, This astral meadow that seems to breathe And allows us to meet Another time And space again – chakra glows in my chest. One emotional tear makes her real. At first my mind will not comprehend It rebels against concepts told not real, illogical. I hold my breath so…

Musings From the Mossy Trail
New Beginnings “We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce As the cultural New Year approaches, many of us look into our past and hope for our future with sincere longing and beliefs of what could be. Resolutions and goals are set now as they have been since the days of our ancient ancestors. For thousands of years, January has been considered a time of passage; an opportunity for new beginnings. January is named for the Roman God, Janus, the god of doorways, transitions…

Perthro’s Pronouncements
To Be Human……The Greatest Vacation in the Universe! I’d like to continue my exploration of the deities by discussing a theory I have developed, one that I believe may be the single most important reason for human existence. In my former posts, I have explained my theories on the nature of our gods’ and goddesses’ actual existence, and what I imagine that they truly are, as a “species”. To paraphrase, I believe they are made of pure energy, and exist in all locations and in all forms of time, namely, past, present, and future. Upon deeper thought and introspection, I have come to the conclusion that there is a very…

Noblemen of God
FREYA’S BROTHER Freyr is known as the God of peace, warriors, abundance and most of all Freya’s twin brother. Except his chariot is pulled by the golden boar Gullinbursti, instead of two blue cats like his sister. Freyrs chariot was made for him by dwarfs for the mischievous God Loki to give to him. The brother and sister duo do have much in common, like the fact that they are both Gods of prosperity, fertility, and fun. Both are well liked by the opposite sex and show no shame in it. Freyr is married to the ginatess Gerd, and Freya to Odin, God of war and wisdom. Freyr fell in…

InterWeavings
Simplicity Love Order Faith Joy Respect Beauty Gratitude Self Dicipline and Self Reliance Peace Charity Courage These virtues are going to be our inspiration this calendar year of 2012. I feel that many of these virtues are no longer a part of our society. Each and everyone of them is not only a gift to ourselves, but to our family and the greater world as well. It seems at first glance to be an easy thing to do and we automatically assume there is nothing for us to learn. But it is much more than a list of words that make us feel good about ourselves. Incorporating these ideas into…
