Cunningham’s Thirteen Goals of a Witch: An Interpretation
In his book, Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner, Scott Cunningham lists The Thirteen Goals of a Witch (in the edition I have they can be found on page 151). Cunningham does not give an explanation of each goal, which to me implies that they are his personal goals and therefore are able to be interpreted in as many different ways as there are witches. The following are my interpretations of each goal: I. Know yourself. This is a reflection of the first pillar of The Witch’s Pyramid. Knowing oneself is deeper than the knowledge one attains from books; it is the knowledge of…

But Honey Look At This In my opinion Facebook has become a place to find the most appalling things. Believe me, I put not only effort but also intention into my daily viewing of Facebook to ensure that I am screening what I am exposed to. I have limited my ‘friends’ to only those individuals that I truly communicate with on a regular basis whether that be in online or offline relationships but it seems that even then I am bombarded by status messages, comments, links, photos, and videos that I would rather have never read, clicked on, viewed or watched. It surprises me that even those individuals that…

Musings concerning correspondences A correspondence is something that is a close similarity, connection or equivalence to something else. Some witches and magickal practitioner will insist that correspondences are vital and must always be considered when spell casting however I tend to disagree. Yes, they can be very helpful with the stimulation of mental focus but in my opinion they are not a necessity. If a witch is successful in manifesting her or his intention without the use of correspondences then why would anyone desire to complicate things? Since everything holds an energetic signature, I find that correspondences aid in the alignment of a spell’s intention or goal. If…

Perpetual Flame Born yellow, orange and red I was to this wooden limb to this oak dweller but in the sacred grove, wise as a tree, silently walks our caretaker, tending her duty though between solstice and equinox, fall it now was birthed in times of long ago. Now my entire intention’s to purify Kildare’s sentient beings worth protecting from pestilence, vermin, and imps that no individual petition would overcome clever maliciousness manifested in darkness, each attack unmade, undone – swathed in my embrace. Wise one, revered Lady of Imbolc we offer bannock and drink; showered by your kindness we raise goblets abundantly flowing with ewe’s milk:…

To Purchase or Craft? It has been asked of me numerous times, “Is better to purchase my magickal tools (wand, athame, chalice, pentacle) or to craft them myself?” My answer is always the same, “What are you guided to do?” I believe it is vital to follow Spirit’s guidance. If you feel moved to craft the item, then do so; if you are guided to purchase the item, then do that. Some of my magickal tools were purchased, some were gifted to me and others I crafted myself. There are benefits of all these options and in my opinion none of them should be overlooked. The items that…

Love Revolution I have been a fan of Madonna’s since the release of her first album back in 1983. I resonate with many of the traits and characteristics that I perceive her to possess: confidence, motivation, intelligence and a keen business sense. I also find it endearing that though she may be surrounded by fame and fortune she still has many insecurities and fears that can be found in her music. I was aware that she was working on a project and couldn’t wait to find out what it was. On the morning of October 9th I was thrilled to find that Madonna’s secretproject was available for viewing.…

Wiccan and Satanism When confronted by individuals who misunderstand Wicca and boldly state that it is a form of or is Satanism, I believe it is important to educate them on what Wicca IS as opposed to what Wicca IS NOT. Yes, I would state that Wicca is not Satanism and that the two spiritual paths are different but I believe that it is important to do so without degrading Satanism in the process. I’ve heard individuals who identify as Wiccan say, “Wicca is not Satanism. We do not worship The Devil and don’t believe in Hell. Why would you assume we do?” And I’ve read statements…

Is Wicca a Valid Religion? Many individuals perceive Wicca as a religious system that allows those of us, who identify as Wiccan, to follow a path that “caters to our desires” instead of “following God’s Commandments” and because of this they consider Wicca to be our own invention and not a valid religion. Well, honestly, while others may perceive the religion of Wicca, my religion, in this way – I do not. Wicca is a valid religion. Wiccans view our planet Earth as a living being. She is Gaia, our Mother and all life (animal, planet, mineral) that flows from her is sacred. No one life is more…

Unverifiable Personal Gnosis Wicca has a foundation built on the idea of Unverifiable Personal Gnosis – meaning that our personal knowledge and experiences may not be able to be outwardly proven to others though we hold it as truth. In order to build and nurture our relationships with God Herself, to gain personal enlightenment or to seek the deeper understanding of the Mysteries, one is expected to experience moments of epiphany or gnosis. I would expect that when an individual lives a life dedicated to Wicca she or he would experience several moments of gnosis while communing with Deity either through meditation, contemplation or ritual. These are personal experiences that…

Living In Fear of the Monster It has occurred to me that the majority of our society here in The United States live in a constant vibration of fear that they are not even aware of. Perhaps they just flat out deny that they are scared or perhaps they justify their feelings and manipulate their thoughts so that the fear appears to be a logical thought and not a fear at all. But what is there to be afraid of? I mean we live in The United States of America. Wasn’t this country built on the idea of freedom? We as citizens have a plethora of civil liberties such…
