Weyland’s Whey Hawthorne Tree Month (May 13th-June 9th) 2026 Column

Hawthorne, along with Ash and Oak, is a “faerie triad” month–ones especially inviting to the fae. C’mon down(Ya think?) The Huathe symbol represents the energies of cleansing and preparation; it’s used in Celtic Reiki and has been known to clear the mind of negativity and confusion. (Sign me up!) No other tree in this calendar better represents the terrible struggle the Celts endured when they were forced to choose between Christianity and their old ways. The Hawthorne was known for healing and death. Some Celts saw hope and rebirth when adopting the new religion while others predicted the passing–as in demise–of their very race. (Yeah, that kind of choice.)

Pluto stationed and turned retrograde on the 6th and will stay that way until October 15th. This has brought initial confusion and a magnification of problems. But take heart, Pilgrims! This is a great time for research and winning new insights into our needs for control as well as understandings of our own self-destructive proclivities.

The May New Blue Moon is on May 16th. It launches the start of a new sequence–the Taurus New Moon cycle. It’s a great time for new wishes or fresh ideas.

My Take Away: Brace for that aforementioned confusion and problem magnification. Remember that you don’t have to be a bookworm to do good research–keeping your eyes open and staying alert and sharp while exploring your options are big parts of the learning process too. And watch out for increased fairy activity. Those little frackers love practical jokes, and they’re not above stealing wee items for a laugh at your expense. Helpful hint: they like anything shiny. Think I’m kidding? I’m still looking for my car keys. You’ve been warned, Pilgrim!

Wey’s Predictions: He’s Been Wrong About Everything Else! I see in the news that Taylor Swift has filed trademark applications to protect her image and voice from AI misuse. Earlier, in January, actor Matthew McConaughgey got eight trademarks to protect his voice and likeness, as well as to safeguard him in developing new AI opportunities for himself (he’s made a deal with a voice-cloning company). We’re going to see a lot more of this, and soon, throughout the entertainment industry. Smart people will be hustling to shield themselves from AI abuses–and to use AI to establish their own plans and goals. And it won’t be only singers and actors who do so. Writers, public speakers, TV and radio personalities and more will figure out ways to put a leash on AI and sic it on brand new tactics to make themselves more greenbacks than ever before. Hey, if a little old wytch like yours truly can see this coming, imagine what some hotshot lawyer or exec can conjure up!

Et cetera: Sparkle and I watched Napoleon Solo–the horse, not the spy–win the Preakness on TV Saturday. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will air its last episode tomorrow night (Thursday the 21st). He will be missed. Jack Kirby, late comic book artist icon and World War Two veteran, was honored when elected officials revealed “Jack Kirby Way” on the Lower East Side with a street co-naming ceremony. Gerry Conway, comic book writer, editor and screenwriter, passed recently at age 73. TV Review: “Interview with the Vampire” author Anne Rice. Biography. 4 brooms.
