Pantheon: The Greeks by Irisanya Moon is the last book in the Pantheon series that I’ve got to review, at least for now, and boy! What a book to end that series of reviews off on! The Greek Pantheon is as fascinating as the Roman, but there are notable differences between the two that, having read & reviewed both Pantheon: The Greeks as well as Pantheon: The Romans, are notable in comparison. Nonetheless, this review is about The Greek entry into this series, and Ms. Moon doesn’t disappoint! To be fair, she is another favorite author from Moon Books; but not without reason!
Pantheon: The Greeks is a thorough, complete and informational exploration of ancient Greek religion, beliefs, customs, and of course, their Gods & Goddesses. As a Hellenic Polytheist herself, Ms. Moon is able to intricately weave the past into the present, and bring these powerful and majestic gods and goddesses into the modern world. There’s something in this book to learn for everyone, from the novice or beginner to Hellenic Polytheism, to those like myself who are more seasoned and already have an established practice.
One of my favorite parts of this book was surprisingly the recommended reading, in Appendix B. So many of those books I myself own, or have read at some point in time. There’s also some books listed there that I’m now very curious to read. Another favorite of mine with Pantheon: The Greeks was that Ms. Moon not only mentioned the Olympian Gods and Goddesses, but she also mentions the chthonic and underworld deities, and even gets specific names of nymphs, spirits of air, earth, fire and water, and so much more.
If you’re a beginner looking to find a comprehensive and beginner friendly, and credible source of information, that can be easily applied to the modern world, then this is the book for you. Likewise, even for those more advanced Hellenic Polytheists, there’s something to be gained from reading this book, whether you’re looking to expand your Hellenic magickal practice, or simply expand your knowledge of the tradition itself. I have no criticisms at all, and as such, I rate Pantheon: The Greeks 5/5 Pentagrams!
