The Green Witch Illustrated has been a companion over this past Summer for me, guiding me to natural magicks to be in touch with the Earth around me during the blooming season. To say that this book influenced a lot of my summer magicks is an understatement. Not only does it avoid so many common trappings specific to traditions (such as Wicca, traditional craft, etc)., making it accessible and usable to any kind of witch. The magick, ideas and spells in the book are easily integrated into whatever your personal form of magick is.
I found this book to not only be inspiring for me, but it also helped me immerse myself into the natural world around me this summer, as I took at least one hike a week, enjoying the various plants and animals I would encounter along the way, each holding significant meaning in their own way. Filled with meditations, rituals, spells, incantations and of course, beautiful illustrations that take the reader to a mystical place in nature.

What I liked most about The Green Witch Illustrated was that it’s meant for the beginner and experienced witch alike; Murphy-Hiscock doesn’t attempt to portray her way as the only way, or the “correct” way. Instead, she approaches natural witchery from a practical standpoint, giving you recipes and ideas for all kinds of teas, balms, lotions and so many other things, added on top of the spells, rituals and meditations included. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading, reviewing and working with the material within the pages of The Green Witch Illustrated, and surely will be returning to it in the future. I’ve seen Murphy-Hiscock’s book out on shelves for a while and have even meandered through them, but in my opinion, this is her best yet in the series! I have no qualms about this book and only good things to say. As such, I give it a 5/5 Pentagram rating.

The Modern Merlin is a Polytheist, Pagan, Animist, Witch, Sorcerer, Chaos Magician and Occultist. He embarked on his spiritual and magickal journey over 15 years ago. As such, he has extensive knowledge of The Occult, Ceremonial Magick, Chaos Magick, Witchcraft, Sorcery, and both modern and ancient world religions and folklore. He is a practicing Sorcerer, blending ceremonial high magick, chaos magick and witchcraft, as well as plant medicine, poisonous plants and entheogens, shamanic techniques, and mysticism. He believes that magick can be as simple or as complex as one needs it to be, and rejects dogma, instead trusting his intuition, and encourages other magickal and spiritual folks to do the same! He venerates and casts magick with a wide array of spirits and deities, and works with both the Left and Right Hand Paths, having experience in both. He has also studied eastern philosophies such as Taoism, Zen Buddhism, and Hinduism. He is an Astrologer and Tarot reader and actively studies and practices many other forms of divination including Runes, Ogham, Palmistry and Scrying. An animal lover, he sees divinity in nature-the trees, plants, animals and sky.
