What Happens Next? Answers About the Afterlife by Jade-Sky is a non-religious approach to answering those nagging questions about the afterlife, even getting into specifics about death, spirits visiting you, whether hell is real or not, and more. This book came to me at a time of grief in my personal life, as I grieve the slow deterioration of my grandfather-who was more like a father to me-from cancer. While I personally don’t have as many questions about the afterlife, death, and similar topics, being a practicing Necromancer and Deathwalker, I still found the material within What Happens Next? to be comforting, accurate, and written with those potentially grieving in mind.

I usually don’t go for these kinds of books, but I decided given the circumstances in my personal life, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a read. Written in question and answer format, Jade-Sky answers the tough questions about death, the afterlife and all of the spiritual components to that. Intermingling the paranormal and the research being done in those fields, with her experience as a medium and psychic, she answers these questions with grace, confidence and accuracy. Our terms may be different, but we’re just speaking a different dialect of the same language!

Content aside, the design of this book lives up to Rockpool’s high standards, being highly aesthetic, and calming in shades and hues of blue, purple, pink, white and other comforting colors. The book is bound in a nice hardcover with a canvas spine. The end of the book has a small section devoted for the reader to write notes in. I found this book to be what I needed at this time in my life; not only to confirm some of the experiences and beliefs I’ve come to embody with my practices, but also to lend a comforting voice within it all, and there were even things within this book I hadn’t considered.

I have no critiques of What Happens Next, and I will recommend this book to those with questions about the afterlife, for whatever reason, coming from whatever background. Jade-Sky has done an excellent job at taking out any religious connotations or terms and making it as universal as possible. I give this book a 5/5 star rating for all of the reasons stated above. Whether you’re experiencing grief over the loss of a loved one, or simply have questions but don’t know where to turn, this book is for you.
