    Runic Divination

History of the Runic alphabets and divination As far back as primordial time’s man found himself fascinated by the mysterious writings of almost forgotten prehistoric languages, e.g. hieroglyphs from Egypt, American Indian inscriptions. According to the University of Nottingham (2006) The earliest undoubtedly runic inscriptions currently known are the short texts (mostly single words which might be names) scratched in the metal of weapons and other gear excavated from the bogs of Illerup and Vimose, in Denmark. Archaeologists have dated these to around 200 A.D although a comb found at Vimose may be about half a century earlier. (¶. 7) However, the destiny of the mystical runes has had a…

Selkies The Selkies are placid creatures, seals by day women and men by night. Also known as Selchies, Sea People or Water Kelpies; In their mortal form the Selkies are described as having a characteristically unearthly magnificence with dark eyes and hair. Noiselessly they appear from the sea shedding their skins and frolicking along the sandy beaches. Like the merrows (the Irish and Scottish equivalent to the mermaid) their toes and fingers are webbed (When no signs of webbed fingers are present their palms are wider than their human counterparts’ showing hints of their watery beginning) however, if a mortal man or woman finds their skin, the Selkie is obliged…

Belenus – Celtic God of Beltane In Celtic mythology the Sun God Belenus worshipped in Britannia, Gaul, Italy, Northern Spain and Austria. Belenus has had shrines erected in his behalf from Aquileia (on the Adriatic) to England (Kirkby Lonsdale). Associated with healing and heat, the meaning of his name is Henbane God or the Shinning one. It has been said the Belenus may be in fact the same deity as the God Belatu- Cadros from the Roman Empire period and thusly identified with Apollo. His companion is Belisama. Belenus’s name has appeared on inscriptions, concentrated primarily in Cisalpine Gaul and Aquileia, however, these inscriptions have also been found in Noricum…

Dryads/ Sidhe Draoi Copyright 2008 Howard David Johnson Druidesses, Tree Ladies, Hamadryads, Tree Spirits, or in Gaelic Dryads are known as the Sidhe Draoi translated Faerie Druids. The element of the Dryads is the Air however; it is their temperament that best describes them. The Sidhe Draoi or Dryads are spirits that make their dwelling in the trees. Playful creatures are they, androgynous wisps of brilliant uncontaminated natural light flittering through the tree tops playfully acknowledging all human contact, but most commonly seen during the full moon of the Sabbats. Sidhe Draoi Lore Handed down by the Sidhe Draoi were the magical secrets of the trees and the means to…

    Faerie Wicca by Listening Owl

Listening-Owl has missed a perfectly good opportunity to enlighten the Wiccan and Faery communities by displaying subtle negative feelings toward the Celtic community, e.g. “Many books have been written about Irish and Celtic faerie traditions of the past. I’m not going there” (Listening-Owl, 2008, p.16). I find this statement quite peculiar in that quite a few of the sections in Faerie Wicca refer to the Celtic traditions such as Dryad Tree Magick, Glossary of Celtic Tree Ogham (Which was given us by the Faery King of the Tuatha de Danaan God Ogma), Help from the Dark Fae, as well as Sea Faerie Summoning. Personal views and prejudices over shadow throughout.…

What is the Ogham? And where do they come from? The Druid Ogham alphabet fits flawlessly into the mystic culture of the Celts. The rareness of the Ogham alphabet makes it easy to see why the Celta believe that it was bequested to them by the Tuatha de Danaan God Ogma (the God of Eloquence). The source of the Ogham is shadowed in mystery. Unclear as to where and when the ogham alphabet began to be used. It has been said that Julius Caesar, (first century BCE), aknoledged that druids used the Ogham in Gaul, nevertheless, scientistific research to date has not been able to find any evidence of Ogham…
