January is Hot Tea Month
Tea time is a good way to draw back in your energy after the rush of the day. The simple act of sipping a hot drink forces us to pay attention to what we are doing in the moment. (Basically, trying not to burn ourselves!) You can chug down a soda while walking from one place to another, but you won’t find it easy with a hot cup in your hand!
There are many wonderful books on the subject of medicinal/magical herbs and teas. Even Peter Rabbit’s mother knew a bit of chamomile tea was in order after Peter’s encounter in Mr. McGreggor’s garden. All sorts of teas are available in your local grocery store as well as health food stores.
One of the nicest things about drinking tea is the choice of mugs or cups and saucers available. Flea markets or garage sales are great places to pick up a single cup and saucer. You can collect a mixed set of teacups or look for just a favorite color. I have a collection of mugs in different colors that I use for different moods. There is a blue mug with chamomile for a calming moment; an orange mug with lemon tea for a pick-me-up and a green mug with peppermint tea for an under the weather tummy. I admit that I have one for every color of the Chakra system! I’ll list what I use in case it has slipped your mind.
Red Root
Orange Hara
Yellow Center
Green Heart
Light Blue Throat
Dark Blue Third Eye
Violet Crown
And let us not forget our brothers and sisters in the British Isles who have perfected the art of Tea Time. How about a muffin or cookie to go with your tea? It may add a few more minutes to your break, but it will help your blood sugar stay up when you return to your work.
Tea time is always a good time for a quiet ritual of focus and intention.
