The Medicine

The Medicine is by far the most eloquently executed documentary of Psychedelics of all time. They take you deep into the culture of Ayahuasca shamanism. Not just a collection of talking heads, this presentation is a work of love, connecting the science, the history, and spirituality of this medicine.
Featuring Graham Hancock, Rachel Harris, and many other of our leading cognitive scientists, as well as an inside perspective from the Shaman himself, they take you up close and personal with the medicine known as Ayahuasca.
What sets this documentary apart from the rest though, is that it answers the question of integration. The Medicine not only presents Ayahuasca as safe, but as necessary. The Medicine talks about psychedelics in direct context to our world today. This documentary isn’t just written from the one sided perspective of the advocates. They discuss the stigma of psychedelics, and in direct contrast, show the beautiful healing effects from the first person perspective of someone who, like many in our western society, had been indoctrinated by these stigmata.
This documentary leaves no stone unturned as it takes you through not only the journey of the patient, but also the journey of the shaman himself, they both realize they’re connection to a consciousness older than time. It directly addresses problems like trauma from sexual abuse, addiction, and many neurological disorders. Doctors, neurologists, botanist and pharmacologists come together to paint a beautifully detailed picture of the scientific and technological majesty of these plants, and demystifies what these medicines really do with the mechanisms of brain chemistry. Shamans, spirit workers and trauma survivors share their personal tales of emotional healing and spiritual growth. Together, they create a narrative that is truly impossible to argue against.
The Medicine gives you the inside scoop on not only the what, but the why of Ayahuasca. The Shaman featured, Taito Juanito invites you into his life and culture. His lineage. He gives the story of the origin of Yagé, the name his people have given to Ayahuasca. He gives his personal account of his own path to becoming a Shaman. We also follow two celebrities, Annalynne McCord, a model and actress, and retired NFL player Kerry Rhodes as they come to the medicine for help with their own personal traumas.
However, the thing that truly sets this film apart from the other documentaries is the artistic direction. Many films of this specific nature do well to inform, yet fail to capture the actual spirit of the medicine. This documentary is one the higher dimensional entities themselves surely smile upon. The music score and graphics keep you deeply enthralled in the subject matter, as you’re being educated from the ground up. At the end of this film, you will leave feeling complete enlightenment on the subject whether you’re someone who has never tried any mind altering substance in your life, or someone who has even done Ayahuasca many times and just needed a few gaps in your knowledge filled in. This documentary is for everyone, and will be a valuable footnote in history. Providing a valuable bridge for advocates of this medicine to help educate their peers on the beauty, and healing these plants can offer humanity.
If you’re looking for a documentary to show you’re skeptical friends, look no further. Not only does this documentary inform them, but it’s fun and will keep the attention of even the most attention deficit person. Pull up a seat, and get ready for a real ride!
