Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times
Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times for March 2021 Bright Blessings! It’s below freezing outside, and we may get up to eight inches of snow in the next three days. I have been shoveling my backside off this month, because we’ve already gotten PLENTY of snow already, as The Cailleach reminds us it’s still her domain. Not for long! (Photo by Johannes Plenio on Unsplash) In just over a month, it will be Spring Equinox, and, according to weather reports, it will have warmed up significantly by then. Already, the days are longer, and seeds are out in stores…YES we got some seeds. Those who have read…

Peeking in the Shadows: Crafting a Book of Shadows and Light
This month our focus is on Devotion and the Great Work…. Nuances of The Great Work-Part One “When a human reaches up to his/her Higher Mind and learns to access the vibrational gifts from that realm (of his/her own higher consciousness), she or he will be filled with inspiration and courage. And this type of inspiration and courage could change the world through actions that are then taken by that individual.”… anonymous … As we begin our exploration of the Great Work, I’d like you to keep in mind that there are many roads that lead to this work. There is no one-size-fits all and the most direct path…

The Healing Embrace: Four Wonderful Reasons to Hug
Little feels more natural than embracing a partner or friend to show affection, offer reassurance, and simply enjoy the close presence of their spirit. Likewise, closeness with our children, who rely on our physical touch to thrive and be comforted, is second nature. This is because these embraces are healing to our bodies and minds. They feel so good not only because we deeply love and care for those we hold close, but because our bodies have a positive physiological and psychological response to this gentle physical affection. Here are four ways embraces benefit everyone involved: An embrace with your partner gets positive brain chemicals flowing: At the end of…

GoodGod!
Meet the Gods: Apollo As the sun begins shining a bit more each day, let’s turn to Apollo, the Olympian sun god. In Greek mythology, there were twelve original Titans. Helios was god of the sun who was said to drive a chariot pulled by four horses, sometimes winged, across the sky. According to theoi.com, “Helios was depicted as a handsome, usually beardless, man clothed in purple robes and crowned with the shining aureole of the sun.” Slowly over time, Helios became viewed as being Apollo, one of the Twelve Olympians – the sun god who is the son of Zeus. Most commonly associated as the…

Notes from the Apothecary
Notes from the Apothecary: Bluebell Tiny bluebells are, for me, a sign that spring is truly on the way. In the woods near where I live, they spring up, completely unannounced, sometime between the snowdrops and the wild garlic. It’s a “blink and you miss it” kind of phenomenon; Come to early, and the ground is just green and dormant. Come too late, and the flowers have already wilted, the plants getting ready to store their energy until next year. The most spectacular showing of bluebells is at a patch of woodland a little further afield, by the banks of one of our waterways. These bluebells arise and…

Worth the Witch
Bit O’Magick Boxes: Luna-Magick Inside a very unassuming box are flaps enhanced with hand-drawn messages. Behind them was an assortment of herbs and a timely ritual – in this case, the full moon. They were selected by Mike Sexton who puts a bit of magick in every box. Hailing from Germany, for more than 20 years he has blended many different paths including ancient Egyptian, Celtic, and Norse to form his own practice. He sticks to his German roots. His business began with art and moved to graphic design. His Wiccan business began with a plushy owl poppet infused with magick. Soon he was doing custom…

As Above So Below (How the Stars Became Our Hearts)
Mastery The air was brisk. A cold mist swept about. The wind kicked up ferociously, turning the mist into a billion freezing daggers. They pierced my flesh all over, burning like fire. A wave crashes below, and I see I am manning a castle wall. I give the signal. They blow the trumpets. As the trumpet blasts fill the air, the sky grows dark. At the tip of the castle, a giant pyramid built into the walls, into the beach. The base of the pyramid, into the sea. And as the trumpets blasted again; I see the monks come out. They sit in perfect rows on the…

Witch Hunt
There are witches all around us. You can find them anywhere… The Witch on Wheels has been documenting her findings. Meet Priscilla Anne Tennant Herrington The first time I met Priscilla Anne Tennant Herrington was on a weekend Mabon retreat. I was stuck by the energy she held, the gentleness with which she offered wisdom, often in the form of a question that made me think. When she began a pagan discussion group for LGPTQ youth, I volunteered to assist. When I was preparing to crone, she was one of my mentors. She’s one of the witchiest witches I know. “The best thing that ever happened…
