    It’s In The Cards

Dear Reader, Welcome to ‘It’s In the Cards’ for www.PaganPages.org. At one time this column appeared in Finer Things Magazine in New Haven, CT, and I am very pleased to be writing my column again; this time for the Pagan Community. Every month, I will do a tarot reading for one person whose question I choose for this column. Also, by writing me, you will have a chance for a free tarot 10 minute reading on the phone. If you would like to contact me about purchasing a reading, please visit my web site at www.SubRosaMagick.com or write me at [email protected]. Since I first began reading for the public 13…

    Vampire Folklore

After Polidori’s version of the vampire, it became apparent that an audience for such work existed.  James Malcolm Rymer decided to enter as an author of this genre for just that reason.  Rymer was born in Scotland in the year 1804, and prior to his career as an author, he pursued various means of employment.  He had been a civil engineer, a surveyor, and a mechanical draftsman.  He pierced the writing scene when he dropped all of these jobs to write for the Queen’s Magazine (Melton 529).  He wrote an article in which he heaped ridicule and disgust upon an avenue of the era called “penny dreadfuls.”  “Penny dreadfuls” were…

A Simple Path: Journey of a Hedgewitch

*The Hedgewitch lives in the space between the Village and the Forest. Between the mundane and the magical. S/He lives with a foot in both worlds. This column is dedicated to the Hedgewitches of the planet earth. September 2009 Harvest Time!!! It is that profoundly magical season of harvest here in the hedge, and the abundance has amazed me beyond my wildest dreams. My garden has been a constant source of joy and lessons learned. The watermelon and cantaloupes, unsown by me, came to life on their own, because we left the seedlings where they sprouted. It was a teetering balance of my way, and Nature’s way. In the end,…

    The Days of September

September 1 On this date in the sixth century B.C., the Persian prophet and mystic known as Zoroaster was born. He founded the religion of Zoroastrinism, which teaches that all of mankind is trapped in a perpetual battle between good spirits and bad spirits. September 2 On this date in ancient Athens, an annual Grape Vine Festival was held in honor of the Greek deities Ariadne and Dionysus. In Crete, Ariadne was worshipped as a goddess of the Moon, and Dionysus as the son of Semele (who was also a goddess of the Moon). September 3 On this day, the annual Path Clearing Festival (Akwambo) is held by the Akan…

    The Indigo Child

Well yet another month has come and gone an just like last month the response to The Indigo Child column has been exceptional, So without further beating around the preverbal bush let’s get down to business and address this month’s issue. Question one: Wishteriaon wrote: Growing up in a very Christian family, I was terribly alone and terrified of the ‘gifts’ I had. The only person who seemed to accept my sincere and innocent behaviors from early childhood was taken from me at an early age. At twenty, I visited a professor of Parapsychology who told me I was an intuitive empathic and if I did not learn how to…

The World (21) “Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Reaching Reiki

with ReikiAwakening.com’s Alice Langholt This month on Reaching Reiki I’m going to talk about Psychic Protection. For anyone who works with energy, whether Reiki, or other practices, protecting one’s energy is very important. Here’s why it’s important, and some ways to do it for yourself. When we work with energy, either via meditation, yoga, Reiki, Tai Chi, or any other practices, what’s happening is we are raising our energetic vibration. What does that mean? We are heightening our senses to be intuitively aware of our energy and that around us. Our Higher Selves, Guides, Angels, and Archangels exist at higher vibrations, and it is via raising our vibration that we…

New Moon Ethics: Musings on the Morals of Paganism

The Goddess Within Hello my blessed friends, and greetings at the beautiful end of another summer, and the beginning of a bright and beautiful fall. I trust that the goddess has bestowed many a blessing on you and yours. During the summer, we are surrounded by festivities and celebrations, such as Beltane and Lughnasadh. We celerate birthdays, sleepovers, and we spend time migrating back to mother nature to enjoy her beauty . There are times, however that we are faced  with challenges in our lives, not just during the summer, but at any time. Sometimes we feel that we are not strong enough to cope, that our hearts and souls…

    Under 18

Kids are a problem.  No, no, I’m not talking about the trials of parenthood; I’m referring to the problem of teaching minors about Paganism.  Though there aren’t any laws that specifically say to teach somebody’s child about a religion is unlawful, there exist community and cultural customs that condemn the teaching if it is done without parental permission.  In the case of Paganism, the problem is just as big as it would be if a Jewish family was to find their child being taught Islam… maybe bigger.  The problem is complex and I don’t intend to cover every facet here, but I will put forth some ideas about it in…
