The 2nd Chakra
After taking a break from the chakras last month to discuss healing meditations, I return to the chakras with the 2nd chakra.
As I mentioned previously, when doing any chakra work, it is imperative to keep yourself grounded. While you can use any grounding exercise that you prefer, I have always used this one in my chakra classes:
**Stand up, grip toes to the ground, long deep breathing, visualize your roots going deep into Mother Earth, keeping you grounded and centered. Inhale and bring the earth energy up to the base of your spine; exhale and let the energy return to the Earth. With each inhale, receive healing energy from the Earth; with each exhale, release all negativity. This will not hurt Mother Earth, as long as it is done for healing and revitalization. Activate your feelings of consciousness and open yourself up to the limitless possibilities surrounding you.**

The Second Chakra is also called the Sacral Chakra. It’s name in Sanskrit is Svadisthana, which means One’s Own Place. It is located at the genitals/womb. Physically, it deals with ovaries, testicles, bladder, genitals, womb.
The color of this chakra is orange, it’s element is Water and it is considered a “feminine” chakra.
The Second Chakra is your dwelling place of self, it is a sweetness of feeling. It is associated with your sexuality, emotions, and intimacy. This chakra is all about your connection to other living beings and your creativity.
This chakra is responsible for how your bond with others; your connection to everyone around you.
When this chakra is balanced and functioning properly, you will feel strong, secure and confident within yourself. You are able to love and accept yourself just as you are. You find satisfaction with your life; you are joyful and happy. You interact well with others. You believe in yourself generally; and in your sexual self, specifically. You may have a nurturing and healing effect on others. Your creativity knows no bounds, as this chakra is about ALL creativity, not just the creation of life.
Conversely, if this chakra is unbalanced, you may feel anxious and restless. You feel shame and rejection from yourself, and feel that you also are rejected by others. You may feel anger toward the opposite sex and have some type of compulsive sexual behavior. You may find yourself ashamed of your own body, or feeling that any type of intimacy is wrong or evil.
Some of the exercises you can do to strengthen your sacral chakra are: leg raises and stretches, pelvic circles, pelvic tilts. You can also do abdominal breathing:
Lie down on your back, and place your hands on your abdomen with thumbs and forefingers touching; women should place fingers and palms over the ovaries. Thumbs are below the navel. Breathe long and deep. On the inhale, the breath should push the abdomen up against your hands. On the exhale, the abdomen gently goes down, as do the hands.
This opens up your sexual and creative energy; you will feel both relaxed
This is a breathing meditation that you can do for your second chakra:
**Sit in easy pose (cross-legged) or in a straight backed chair, keeping spine straight. Inhale through the nose, for a count of five, focusing your awareness at the sacral area. Visualize an orange light entering through your feet. As you exhale in one breath, for a count of five, visualize that orange light radiating from the feet to the sacral area and then into your aura. As you deepen your concentration, try and “feel” the chakra. Do you feel heat, or vibration?
After the meditation, lie down on the floor and relax for at least five minutes. Sit up, stretch your arms up to the ceiling with deep inhales and exhales.
