Stellar Applications

Current Astrology Using Hermetic Applications

Welcome Back to Stellar Applications….

In this issue of PaganPagesOrg we are celebrating Litha, the abundance of summer’s peak and the brilliance of light that fills this space of transition. Astronomically this is the date of the Summer Solstice and sits as one of two points on the Witch’s Wheel where the scales tip in balance towards the growing of light or darkness, as the sun waxes or wanes, respectively.

This year the Summer Solstice occurs on June 21st at 10:38am (EDT)and astrologically, Cardinal energy abounds creating the product of what has been quickened and set on the path towards manifesting in its fullest state.

Astrologically, the Summer Solstice aligns with the transition from Airy astrological Gemini into Watery astrological Cancer. We discussed the nature of the elemental impact on the astrological signs and in this case, that transition is one from Mind and intellectualization (Gemini) to a more heart-centered and intuitive (Cancer) space of being. If we overlay this on the traditional ways in which the Summer Solstice is celebrated, it could be equated in this way…

. The ease of focus, intention and adaptable preciseness (Gemini) required to seed what will become front and center in its full bloom of light and the quickened heat of the Divine stirs the heart and space of inquisitive intuition towards gathering what will be needed of hearth and home (Cancer) in the waning of light held in the months ahead…

The Major Arcana of the Tarot and the Summer Solstice

In Tarot-speak, the keys of the Major Arcana that align with the Summer Solstice are the High Priestess and the Chariot.

Key II, The High Priestess aligns with the Lunar qualities of astrological Cancer and the seasonal tides of the Summer Solstice. Key VII, The Chariot gives image to the balance and stability that is achieved in return from those pursuits that endow power and strength. As we transition from the solar month of Gemini, the activities achieved and flexibility required to course correct steer the direction of resting in the “fruits of the spoils”, so to speak. The High Priestess speaks to the balance achieved through wisdom of choice and reaching a certain spiritual maturity and the Chariot is one of more mundane endeavors. Both images picture the main character poised between pillars of polarity. The High Priestess- the pillars of Dark and Light and the same iteration in the image of the Chariot in the form of the sphinxes of Light and Dark. And, each stands strongly in the ripeness of their power and the brilliance of a light that has not quite begun to fade.

Natal Applications

Beyond the sheer joy of celebration of another turn of the Witch’s Wheel of the Year, these astrological and tarot energies can be applied to your natal chart.

    1. Identify which house on your natal chart is aligned with astrological Cancer. This is the energy of the solar month for you. Are there any planets in this house?

ie…. Astrological Cancer is in my Fifth House, the House of Service and Creative Efforts. So, during this solar month and celebration of light that has reached its peak, requires that I use it to light the eternal spark of Light within to carry me through the winter. Being in this 5th House provides the opportunity for me to hold this light as the inspiration for those creative efforts that may be cloaked in the waning light and remain undiscoverable.

Pluto is also in this Fifth House of Cancer, indicating that I must release and let die what does not serve my creative efforts and embrace the new life that emerges from that.
