Magick for all Seasons. A grimoire for the Wheel of the Year by Marla Brooks
I love the cover of this book. It holds several elements that are key to wiccan life. The crow caught my eye right away, but the more I looked the more detail I found in the cover. The stars, the rustic looking border, the different flowers that are used in practice. It just flows together really well.
The next thing I noticed was the dedication. Having a real person have their wisdom be brought into this text is amazing. The link between the past and present and how wisdom and guidance from the past has shaped the present practice for the author gives me a more real feel.
Sections in this book are well laid out and each sabbat gets a fair share written about it. I adore the sections are started with Samhain as that is the holiday most people associate with practitioners of Wicca. A cute way to kind of intro the book with the grimoire trivia was really insightful and shows how grimoire translates across many cultures and how each culture puts their own spin and insights into that version of the grimoire.
I love how the reader is guided through multiple ways to celebrate each holiday along with ways to honor parts of that holiday. Also, really loved that astrology and different ways of divination are discussed. The way the history of the holiday, as well as, practices honoring the holiday are woven into the chapter are greatly appreciated. Knowing the why helps to understand the concept a bit more and in my case understand how to strengthen your ties to those practices. Each time Great Grandma Sophie’s wisdom I can’t love and appreciate it enough. I also loved the fact that every day items are discussed and how they can be used for divination, as well as, honoring the holiday.
This book is truly packed with information and I have a feeling each time I read it again I will see additional insights and ideas I may not have seen before. I highly recommend this book as a guide to strengthen the depths of knowledge of the wheel of the year.
