In this author, I have found a kindred spirit! Several times in life, I have been asked the question, if you could meet anyone you wanted, who would it be. If I was asked that question now, it would be Stephen Harrod Buhner, the author of this book. Being part Indian myself and raised Pagan, I have always had a great relationship with nature and all that she holds. I have often sat at the base of the tree and became in tune with the tree, falling into meditation and talking with the life within. This book details how the author came to his beliefs in the Sacred Plant Medicine. His grandparents taught him some and then when he fell ill and doctors could not figure out his illness, he turned to an herbalist who provided him with osha, which within weeks, eased his problem. It was during this healing process that he came to realize that is was the life of the tree, the life of the osha that had in fact, become a part of him and healed him. Realizing this, the author begins his journey to learn about plants and speak to them. He had gained insight from the different plants as to what their healing properties were. There are mentions of different plants in this book and some recipes that one can use. There were some plants that I didn’t recognize but I am sure with assistance one could find them. What enthralled me the most is that this author recognized that plants are living beings and that when ingested, the life of the plant becomes one with our bodies, thus giving us the gift of healing. Excellent read! This one is a keeper for sure!
