Weyland’s Whey July 2025 Buck Moon Column
Buck Moon Named after male deer, because their antlers hit full growth around this time. The moon entered Capricorn on the 9th. Libras are one of the signs that’ll fulfill their destiny in this full moon, striving hard to realize their dreams and helping their family members grow. (I’m thinking shoe lifts, but that can’t be right.) Superlative goals, Pilgrims! Good luck! (Parade, msn.com, forbes.com.) For Your Deliberation Paranormal investigator Dan Rivera died Sunday July 13th while showcasing the notorious Annabelle doll, which is known for The Conjuring movie franchise. He was 54. The Adams County Chief Deputy Coroner says the doll was not present and Mr. Rivera was found alone.…

Wonderfully Wiccan with Derrick Land – July 2025: The Witch’s Grimoire and the Importance of Magickal Record Keeping
With Midsummer behind us now, we are heading into the second half of the year, literally and energetically. While the first half of the year is associated with increase and activity, the second half of the year is a time of decrease and gradual inactivity. The peak of Summer is over, and August will be here before you know it, which for many people marks a return to school. Summer vacations are ending during this month with some finding themselves balancing their checkbooks hoping they didn’t overindulge! If we look at the Wheel of the Year, we see this decline reflected as well. The next few Sabbats, after all, are…

A World Re-Enchanted June 2025
The month of June has arrived and the energies have shifted from that of Spring to the time of Summer and we kick off that change with a month focused on the aspect of fire. Within Tolkien based spirituality and especially for those of us in Way of Arda’s Lore fire holds a deep significance. It is held as the second most important concept next to Music. The reason fire is so vital has to do with the Flame Imperishable also called the Secret Fire. Ilúvatar used this fire which has the power of creation, to bring everything to life. He placed within the Elves, Humans, Dwarves and all other…

Art and Academia I Enjoyed in June 2025
This is a column I hope to post regularly. I was inspired by Karissa Love’s Art I consumed this Month, YouTube videos, and thought, I also consume a lot of art, but I’d like to combine that with the academia I read as well. I’m sure plenty of other people make this kind of content since ‘What I Consumed This Month’ is a huge trend, but I’ll give her credit since she’s the only one I’ve personally seen do it with art! (Though, truth be told, I don’t watch her videos much, only seen a handful. She has a cool, Western flower-child, love-witch vibe if you want to check her…

Weyland’s Whey Summer Solstice 2025 Column
The Solstice The sun moves into Cancer, and the moon into Taurus. The next 4 weeks will be a great time to invest in both yourself and your loved ones. (If you can think of a bad time for either, you’ve got me beat, Pilgrim!) I haven’t specified a date here because in my research I got June 20th and June 21st. (Sheesh!) Prudence pays! Happy Juneteenth! Juneteenth will be celebrated in New Jersey on Friday, due to an amendment of the original legislative draft establishing it as a state holiday, which switched the observance to the 3rd Friday in June. No mail was delivered to our cul-de-sac today, so I guess New Jersey…

Notes from the Apothecary: Moss
It’s been a while since I posted in this column, but I’m hoping to get back to it once a month. I wanted to start back with a plant that I’ve been fascinated with since I was a child. Well, it’s not one plant really, but a whole group of plants: Moss. Moss is like a miniature forest; a whole ecosystem on a doll’s house scale (or smaller) that holds so much wonder. From common haircaps emulating pine trees to sphagnum moss that forms unique peatlands, moss is a very special part of our ecosystem and is packed with magical potential. The Kitchen Garden Moss is a collection of non-vascular…

Weyland’s Whey June 9th, 2025 Strawberry Moon Column
Strawberry Moon It arrives, the last full moon of Spring, on June 11th. It’ll also be a micro moon, looking smaller and dimmer than normal. (Much like yours truly.) It was called “Strawberry Moon” by Algonquian tribes, among others, for the brief harvest season of–you guessed it, Pilgrim–strawberries that accompanied its appearance. This year it shows up in Sagittarius, which rules connections personal and global. (Old Farmer’s Almanac.) For Your Deliberation Remember last column’s Wey’s Predictions, where I talked (ranted) about insect population decline? Well, recently I spoke to Trish, our newest Townie and resident genius. She was already familiar with the topic and suggested I check out insect decline in Germany.…

Being Ethical in the Trending World of the Occult
Witchcraft, magick, paganism, manifestation, and all things occult have surged into the mainstream. I first got into the craft before major social media was a thing, it felt like being part of a secret world. Now, witchcraft is everywhere: tarot cards are sold at grocery stores, crystals come in any shape you can think of, and TikTok has it’s own WitchTok abundant with spell tutorials and aesthetic rituals. On one hand, it’s exciting to see the craft becoming more accessible. On the other, it means low quality products are constantly being pushed on us at a markup. It raises the question: How can we stay ethical in a world where…

A World Re-Enchanted May 2025
In the ever-hectic pace of our daily lives there is something that is often overlooked even though there are many antidotes regarding this often simple and unassuming item. To what is this author referring? Why the often thought of simple and common flower though it is an often misunderstood and powerful plant. The power of the humble flower was once very well known in our modern society. I am talking about not so long ago during the Victorian age when the language of flowers known as Floriography reached its peak. While its origins can be traced back to the Greeks and Romans, it definitely culminated during the Victorian era and…

Weyland’s Whey, May 22nd, 2025 New Moon Column
New Moon The New Moon will occur on Monday, May 26th at 11:02 pm EST. It will be in Gemini and will signify a moment of beginnings, connection and fresh starts. It will be a good time to set intentions and plant seeds for the future. (Sources: Born Under Saturn, Elle, Horoscope View.) Beautiful Dreamer The night kitty Tabitha returned home from being spayed, we set her up in the office room with a little bed and nearby bowls of food and water. Around midnight, I was awakened by something at my feet. It was Tabitha, curled up around her Elizabethan collar and fast asleep. How she made it up the pet ramp…
