Book Review – Witchbody: A Graphic Novel by Sabrina Scott
Book Review Witchbody A Graphic Novel By Sabrina Scott 74 pp. “Can magic teach us how to love?” asks Sabrina Scott partway through their graphic essay, “Witchbody: A Graphic Novel.” As Scott builds up layers of radical environmentalism and transformative animism through the book, the answer crystallizes: yes, magic can teach us how to love, because empathy and experience are the way forward, and magic gives us the tools to learn and practice both. While it is difficult to pin down a single thesis for this essay — perhaps only because the scope of Scott’s topic is so broad — one clear theme is that through the intentional sharing of…

Spring’s Awakening
The sweet song of the birds calls me from my winter’s sleep announcing that Spring has arrived. I stretch and wipe the remnants of sleep from slowly focusing eyes. Sunlight streams though spider silk curtains of gauzy lightness and a soft and gentle breezecarries the scent of newly awakened earth. I stand from my soft bed of moss and greenery the earth below my feet moist with fairy kissed dew a leafy canopy of roof that shelters over head filters early morning sunlight like shards of the finest crystalline prism. All of nature surrounds me The call to Spring heard in the deep roots that meander through loamy earth. I…

Book Review – Divining With Animal Guides: Answers from the World at Hand by Hearth Moon Rising
Book Review Divining With Animal Guides Answers from the World at Hand by Hearth Moon Rising I was delighted to discover that Divining with Animal Guides is not a cookbook dictionary, concretizing the “meanings” of animal encounters. Author Hearth Moon Rising has created a manual for learning to observe and discern and ultimately, to shift our strictly human viewpoint. Only when we look at the context in which the animals offer us their messages are we able to fully understand their invitations and gifts. Rising weaves science, mythology, mathematics and storytelling into each of the chapters. There are 9 in total, covering the cat family big and small, alligators and…

Book ReviewThe Ultimate Guide to ChakrasThe Beginner’s Guide to Balancing, Healing, and Unblocking Your Chakras for Health and Positive Energy by Athena Perrakis, Ph.D. Most books about the Chakras generally stick to the seven (7) more broadly known. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this guide includes two additional that make the study more cohesive and aligned with those who are exploring this subject area with the intention of reaching beyond the standards. The first statement by the author is one of reminder that the system of the Chakras is one that reaching deeply into ancient practices and by virtue of that reach is inclusive of the work we…

Dracula This month, I reviewed Dracula, the original one starring Bela Lugosi. OH MY!!!!! They just don’t make movies like they used to! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve found the divine Bela Lugosi to be positively magnificent, but I have never sat and watched the entire original Dracula he made famous. I waited too long, and if you have not seen it, don’t wait any longer. Take a look at the trailer of what we have been missing! Universal has released a set of Blu-Rays’s called “Dracula: Complete Legacy Collection”, and it has six films, including the 1931 Dracula with Bela. The films were made from 1931-1948,…

Book Review – Sacred Art A Hollow Bone For Spirit: Where Art Meets Shamanism by Imelda Almqvist
Book Review Sacred art A Hollow Bone For Spirit Where Art Meets Shamanism by Imelda Almqvist As a sacred art student of Imelda’s I was eager to get my hands on this book. Her teachings have had a profound impact upon my journeys within journeys unfolding and unfurling as the art is created. This is a truly inspiring book taking you on a journey of the history of art from rock paintings through to “mo-dern” day art. A journey which shows how art, region, science, alchemy and cosmology were all once interwoven and how unfortunately they became split in our need to break things apart. Your thoughts, ideas, perceptions of…
