The Crafty Writer
Remember those cool autumn nights when you grab the quilt that your grandmother made and wrap up before the fire to keep warm. Its a nice thick quilt of geometric patterns and subtle colors that breathes comfort and warmth. Now I know this may come as a shock to some, but it isn’t only a craft that grandmothers can do. Many young people enjoy the hobby also. Quilting has been made easier if you wish to start with the do it yourself kits. The blocks are pre-cut, often the thread is included, and step by step instructions. All you need to do is pull out a needle or your sewing…

Astral Travel, Lesson 4
Some define astral traveling as the consciousness leaving the physical body and flying around the astral realm. Others believe that using one’s imagination to achieve astral travel or while in the astral realm makes the experience less “real”. Not true. The imagination can work great feats for the traveler in the astral realm. Liken it to creating your own reality and then bringing much of that “imagined” reality back here to the physical realm. We will go into this further in future assignments, but for October we are going to focus on how to work in the astral to achieve communication with someone you can’t/don’t/won’t communicate with physically. Angie was…

Forest Moon Grove Church
RANTS ON THE PAGAN CONDITION I sit here baffled at the condition of the world and Pagans in general. I told Jennifer I would carry on my column for Forest Moon and am getting to it now after some irritating discussion seen on facebook. Pagans telling other Pagans they weren’t Pagan. Hmmm. Titles are the killer of any group or culture. Why can’t people just be happy on their own little path. The answer can be varied but boils down to individual. Some are unhappy or not very secure in their own path so they must drag everyone around them down. Some are the all-knowing control freaks that know all…

Paranormal Path
Ghosts of 1600 When we hear the address 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue we think of the beautiful historic White House in Washington D.C. Construction first began in 1792 but it wasn’t until November 1800 that the house had its first occupants, President John Adams and his wife Abigail. Since then this grand building has been the home to our countries presidents and like any other home has seen its share of intense emotions and unforgettable events. As I’ve previously discussed, whenever there is that much emotion and history tied to a location it creates a perfect breeding ground for paranormal activity. The most common reports of a ghost in the White…

Magical Oils and Incense
How to Use Magical Oils One of the common question I receive as a practicing WITCH is: Are these Magickal Oils for Pagan use only. This article briefly puts ritual oil use into a historical context, outlines the types of oils available in the marketplace and describes common methods of using magical oils. Magical Oils have been used for spiritual undertakings since ancient times: The Bible speaks clearly of oil being used for spiritual purposes. Additionally, recipes are given for creating magical oil, perfume and incense. Ancient Egyptians used oil to anoint their Kings and Queens for protection, health and power in life and also in many afterlife rituals. Historical…

They are Coming
they are coming, oh dear goddess, they are coming. now i see their lanterns glowing through the trees. and i hear the sickles crashing and the anger that is lashing at these simple souls i’ve ever tried to please. they are led now by that angry, self-important preacher, the holy man with hatred in his heart. and his ever-open book, and his angry, biting face, with his certainty he has the only way. i have helped the maidens caught before their time given salves and potions, healing for their woes. i have taken from their wombs, the mewling babies, and bound the jaws of those who passed away. i have…

Musings of a Massachusetts Witch
Our Family’s Samhain Traditions Samhain is my favorite of the eight annual Sabbats that my family and I observed as part of the Wheel of The Year. It is a time for us to let go of the old and look ahead to the new, to break out of negative habits and to begin a healthier way of being. We understand that in dark silence comes the whisperings of new beginnings. We reflect on nature’s cycle of life, death, and rebirth as it marks the end of the harvest season. Samhain is our spiritual new year. Our family celebrates this festival together. The children begin to look forward to it…

Principles of Paganism, Lesson 4
Lesson 4: Daimones Daimon. This Greek word has a long history, and the surer people became as to its meaning, the further they were from its original senses. In Homeric or archaic times (ca. early 8th century BCE) it seems to have had two primary meanings: a being higher than a human but less than a god or goddess (nymph would perhaps be an approximate female equivalent); and an expression meaning ‘some god or other,’ where the identity or name of the spiritual agency is unknown. Daimoni in Homer is an adjective meaning ‘strange’. The presence of a daimon or a spirit was uncanny, and the sign of a spirit’s…
