Healing Through Meditation
“Prayer is where the mind is one-pointed and one talks to Infinity.
Meditation is when the mind becomes totally clean and
receptive, and Infinity talks to one.”
~ ~ Yogi Bhajan
In past columns, I have talked about the benefits of a meditation practice – a calm mind, clarity of thoughts, ridding yourself of unwanted emotions, and relaxing and unifying your mind, body, heart, and spirit.
Meditation also gives us the ability to heal ourselves. We do this by using the universal energy of the Infinite.
By using basic breath exercises, we increase our Prana, (see Prana article here), the life force within ourselves. As we breathe, it flows throughout our being. It returns us to ourselves, calmer and healthier.
Mantra (see Mantra article here) also helps us to heal, using the vibration of each word, each syllable. This energy moves out into the Universe and, in return, flows back to us.
Others can feel the strength or weakness of our vibrations (see 8th Chakra/aura article here), just as we can feel theirs. That person you cannot seem to get away from fast enough? They are sending out their own negative vibration. We can enhance our own vibration with breath and sound, strengthening and healing ourselves with each breath.
If you or someone you know is a Reiki Master or uses any other type of healing modality, then you have an understanding of how the hands are used in healing. For those who do any type of healing or massage therapy, try the following:
Rub your palms together briskly for 3-5 minutes.
Feel the tingling that
is now in your palms. This is universal energy.
Also, hold your palms 3-4 inches apart,
facing each other. You should be able
to feel the magnetic exchange of energies
between your palms.
You can turn this simple exercise into a complete meditation by breathing and focusing upon the energies. If you seem to lose that tingling feeling, just rub your palms together once again.
Any emotional imbalance such as temporary depression or sadness, can be improved/healed through your breath meditations.
Another way to use meditation to heal is to understand and balance your chakras, the energy centers, within your body. I have just recently finished a series of articles on each chakra; they are available within the archives of
Meditation with visualization (see Visualization article here) is another form of healing using meditative techniques. As you inhale, pulling in the Prana, you visualize yourself healed. You can also bring your visual focus to the specific color for each chakra; this can be done in conjunction with a crystal of the same color.
Bringing together breath, visualization and color is a way of channeling our own power. We invite our spiritual deities in to help us, always keeping in mind that we are only the channel and that the healing comes from the universe. For me, personally, it is yet one more way of bringing the presence and wisdom of the Goddess into my life.
As a Goddess-based Reiki healer, I open myself as a channel only, for healing by using my breath and a very brief meditation; and so, for me, the prana/energy is Goddess-infused.
You can use all of these techniques on others as well, but only with permission from the person you would wish to heal. I would also strongly suggest you work on yourself first and, then, if you wish to become a healer, go through the proper training.
The healing branch of Kundalini Yoga is called “Sat Nam Rasayan”, which means “universal remedy of manifested truth and dates back to the 16th century. This is a meditative approach in which one opens their awareness, creating your own sacred space in which to heal.

The mantra used in this meditation is Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung.
Ra = Sun Energy
Ma = Moon Energy
Da = Earth Energy
Sa = Universal Energy
Sa = Universal Energy (repeated)
Say = The personal embodiment of the Universal Energy
So = Merging with the Universal Energy
Hung = The Infinite
For those of us who are Pagan, Wiccan and Witch, we have a special affinity with our planet. While you are in meditation, using the above mantra, you can also send your focus into the world to send the same powerful healing energy to the plant.
