Do you love owls? I love owls! They symbolize wisdom, intuition, the mind/intellect, and the mysticism of the night. They’re the 2nd most commonly known witch’s familiar after the cat. Do you want to learn more about owls, their magick, deities associated with them, and the like? Look no further, as Owl Magick delivers all of this and more! Packed with spells, rituals, invocations and meditations, Owl Magick will teach you about owls-their anatomy, abilities, and their magickal capabilities. While we can’t (or usually can’t) have an Owl as a house pet, we can connect with them in the wild, and work magick with them!

Owl Magick is filled with rituals perfect for Samhain, as Owls are often associated with the holiday, including one to commune with the ancestors! Aside from all of the interesting spells and rituals and exercises, this book explores Goddesses associated with Owls, such as Athena and Lilith, giving spells and rituals to call on their owl spirits to help with different issues those goddesses can assist with. At the end of the book, correspondences for spell work are given, such as colors, herbs, and the like. There’s also a small section covering Owl medicine through a shamanic practice.

Overall, this is an excellent book. I chose to review it because I have always loved Owls and other “creatures of the night” as Bela Lugosi said in his 1933 Dracula role, such as Bats, Wolves, Spiders, Skunks, etc. Owls also happen to be what I call a fetch, or familiar that is in the wild, but always around. I have several fetch spirits that manifest in animal form, an Owl being one of those animals. I found the information within Owl Magick to be accurate, useful and inspiring, encouraging me to work Owl Magick into parts of my life for various reasons. As a side note, Owls appeared more and more, along with Bats, as I read this book, perhaps omens of what I need to embrace in my path currently during this Samhain season.

Because of all these wonderful things, I give Owl Magick a 5 out of 5. It’s an excellent read, and I would suggest any Witch, Occultist, Shaman and Pagan to read it, especially those with an interest in or calling to Owls. Owl Magick will be a book I refer to many times, and one I find myself using the material within to enhance my practices. I also forgot to mention how beautifully illustrated this book is, with mystical, enchanting images of owls in their different kinds throughout the book. There’s also sections on different kinds of owls, and the specific magicks they imbibe. An excellent book!

Rieka Moonsong is a Wiccan High Priestess currently training to become clergy. She is also an Andean tradition-trained, mesa-carrying shaman. It is her mission to spread knowledge and wisdom to others.
