A Witch Alone: 13 Moons to Master Natural Magic is a contemporary manual on solitary Witchcraft for the beginner. A Witch Alone covers everything a novice witch needs to know; anything from the Sabbats, Lunar Phases, Gods & Goddesses, and more are covered in this tome. Although the author states that this type of witchcraft is “traditional” don’t confuse that for what we call Traditional Witchcraft in America; rather, what’s referred to is a classic version of Wicca, which in the UK, where it started, is what’s referred to as “traditional witchcraft” or “traditional craft”. To make this clear, Robert Cochrane’s influence can’t be seen much, if at all, in this book. That doesn’t make it bad however; instead, I think this is an excellent starting point for witches looking to carve their own path forward, and embrace the more “traditional” style of witchery: solitary
While covens have their value, many are finding them too limiting, too dogmatic, or just not for them. Solitary witchcraft and Wicca have been on the rise since the 80’s and 90’s, thanks to legendary authors such as Scott Cunningham. Green’s style of witchcraft is rooted in Wicca and Neo-Pagan beliefs and ideologies, but it can easily be translated to any paradigm of the Craft. I found Green’s writing style warm, down-to-earth, and authoritative, as she has been studying these mysteries since the 1960’s.
I don’t have any major critiques for this book, other than the “traditional witchcraft” caveat, which doesn’t affect the rating in my opinion, as it’s simply a matter of semantics. Other than this small critique, this is an excellent book that even advanced and experienced witches and magi can find value in. Personally, it reminded me of the simplicity of the Craft, the power that can hold, and the power that is within each and every one of us, as witches and magickal folk. I give it a 5/5 Pentagram rating, and will recommend this book to clients, friends and family for years to come, as they look to expand their spirituality and Craft. Well done, Ms. Green!
