Spirituality Without Religion
Spoiler alert: this piece is not really about Spirituality without Religion. The way of the shaman is certainly not exempt from paradoxes and miracles. It was August 5, 2018. My Chinese calendar predicted it would be an auspicious day for rituals but a bad one to embark on a long journey. Rituals it was. I went to my favorite café in Bangkok, the city where I was living, and put fingers to keyboard. It had not been a good week; I had submitted a piece commissioned by a website that receives nine million unique visitors a month, and it had been turned down. My agent pitched the site for an…

The Bad Witch’s Guide
The Bad Witch’s Guide to Ghost Hunting (Photo by Callie Gibson on Unsplash) It is the season apparently for all things spooky…ooooh! I don’t ghost hunt as a rule. I ghost shoo! That said I do understand the desire for some titillation and so, on some intellectual level. It is easier in general to ghost hunt in cities than the wilds and better in Europe than the US purely down to number dead people over thousands of years. There are of course many kinds of haunting and spirit activity but violence and large amounts of people seem to imprint or cause haunting more often. My psychic American bestie…

Seeing the Signs – Book Review of Cartomancy with the Lenormand and the Tarot by Patrick Dunn
Book Review of Cartomancy with the Lenormand and the Tarot by Patrick Dunn I found Cartomancy with the Lenormand and the Tarot: Create Meaning & Gain Insight from the Cards, by Patrick Dunn, at my local public library. As usual, I discovered it while looking for something else which naturally wasn’t on the shelf. (This happens so often that I expect it). I got it out and read it quickly and returned it within the borrowing period. A few weeks ago, I borrowed it again. This is the kind of library book that you don’t want to return. I plan on purchasing it for my own sometime in the future.…

Book Review – In Focus Meditation: Your Personal Guide by Jacqueline Towers
In Focus: Meditation Your Personal Guide by Jacqueline Towers © Zambezi Publishing Ltd. imprint of Quarto Group page count 144 One of the first things Ms. Towers says about meditations is “meditations aren’t something you need to work because they just start” I like the way this book is laid out, Ms. Towers has done an excellent job of presenting this material. In the first chapter, entitled “About Meditation,” Ms. Towers lists 12 benefits of meditation and eight different techniques. Of the eight different methods of meditation, not all of them require you to quiet your mind. (Which is a good thing, because I never have a quiet mind.)…

Review: Greek Mythology Reading Cards by Allison Chester-Lambert & Illustrations by Richard Crookes
Greek Mythology Reading Cards by Allison Chester-Lambert Illustrations by Richard Crookes 112 Cards I have many, many decks of Tarot and Oracle cards and am always on the look-out for those that will enable the reader to connect in their own style using imagery that resonates with their spiritual practice and philosophies. The Greek Mythology Reading Cards fill those criteria very nicely; offering a visual that most people know a bit about, regardless of religious or spiritual practice. To clarify, these cards fit in the category of oracle cards, rather than Tarot. I’ve been asked when teaching what the difference is and by way of brief explanation, oracle cards fit…

GoodGod!
Meet the Gods: Chernobog (“Day and Night (Belobog and Chernobog) by Maxim Sukharev) Merry meet. This time of the waning year is the time of the dark gods, who balance the gods of the light during the waxing year. Slavic god Belobog is the “White God,” with his sunshine that brings life. He is prayed to for a plentiful harvest, and for a light that guides through dark times and places. Belobog appears only during daylight, wearing a white robe and holding a staff. He brings good things to those he meets. Belobog’s brother is Chernobog, the equally powerful god of the dark who rules the night, and is associated…

The Wind Came at Night
The Wind Came at Night In the days of chilling blaze Springtime sun as winter fades Dazzling spears and green grass blades The gale the only blight. Driving out to picnics gay February turning into May Hearts and smiles throughout the day But the wind came at night. Batten hatch and throw the catch Draw the curtains and the latch Find the candle; light a match Glow ghostly and white. Lights to ward off what’s outside Whatever feral monsters ride Abroad; their entrance is denied Though the wind comes at night. I saw a face outside my place Swiftly passed, as in a race I blinked and…

Tarot Talk
Three of Wands (The Three of Wands card is from the artist Ciro Marchetti http://www.ciromarchetti.com/)** We have already talked about the Three of Cups, the Three of Swords and the Three of Pentacles, so this month we will examine the Three of Wands. This is a Minor Arcana card so we know right away that the message offered by this card will most likely be more immediate in nature, or will most likely be connected to more day-to-day issues. The easiest way to get a decent understanding of a Minor Arcana card is to examine its number, or in the case of Court Cards, its rank, and to examine its…

Book Review – In Focus Palmistry: Your Personal Guide by Roberta Vernon
In Focus Palmistry Your Personal Guide by Roberta Vernon © Zambezi Publishing Ltd. First published in 2018 by Wellfleet Press an imprint of the Quarto group page count 160 Ms. Vernon has written a very interesting book on palmistry\and reading. This is the subject, that honestly, I have enough knowledge on to fill a thimble. So for me, this book was really interesting. Ms. Vernon talks about looking at the whole hand when doing a palm reading. I like the way Ms. Vernon breaks this book down, she has a chapter for fingers, thumbs, the lines, mounds, and marks, colors, and warts. The writing of the book helps you to…
