    Liber I: Magick and Writing

The modern world subsists through the need to simply survive, contrive a constructed order in life, and to show deference to the most rudimentary ideas; whether the sensationalism is a form of vestige of antiquated religions or the most coveted product/service which most up-to-date. The non-sophisticated have been so beguiled by coaxers to be entrapped in the grasp of media and the freshest frenzy. At the crack of a whim people flock like sheep being herded to the closest destination with the autonomous life; the sheep have little thinking to do, but they serve 2 simple tasks: to be sheared of their wool and enjoy the pleasures of provender without…

Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times

Samhain 2015 for Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times   This article is cheating. I admit it. I was looking over last year’s article to ensure I did not write close to the same thing this year, and I stumbled upon the file for the talk and ritual I gave at our Samhain last year. It was conveniently and entirely different from last year’s article. Of course, memories came flooding back. Each Sabbat and gathering is packed with good memories with loved ones. Samhain, the time for honoring the dead, is a good time to connect with the living as well. In pre-Christian times, it was a time of…

    ThriftCrafting: Witching on a budget

Making Ink Merry meet. Growing wild near me are pokeweed bushes with their bright berries that have been ripening for weeks now. Found widely in North America, its poisonous red berries can be used to make ink for magical purposes. Collect up two cups of berries. Using a strainer to filter out the skins and seeds, mash the berries and collect the juice. Caution: as berries pop, they splatter their purplish-red juice everywhere, and it stains. I recommend wearing latex gloves and keeping wipes handy to catch drips. (Those wipes sold in beauty supply shops for getting hair dye color off of skin got the stains off my hands before…

    Tink About It

About Devil Worship, Flying Besoms and Such. Or Not? Ever since I took my first steps on the pagan path I have been open about it. I’ve never really been in the broom closet. I don’t walk around brandishing it to everyone, but I don’t hide it. Being pagan is an integrated part of me; you can’t separate the witch from the woman, they’re one. I’ve never felt like hiding it, why should I? Of course I’ve had mixed reactions, but most of it was positive or neutral. People don’t have to like it, as long as they respect it. Nowadays people know more about modern witchcraft, thanks to the…

    Spiralled Edges

Spiralled Edges – Just Be I recently read a blog article talking about the necessity, and great difficulty, some have in holding sacred space without actively doing something. So much emphasis on our self-worth is placed on doing, on being productive. We downplay and devalue the place and purpose for just being. We use the practice of doing to hide from our selves. Sometimes the greatest act of love we can provide is to just be and hold Sacred Space for someone without trying to do for them. Sometimes, we become impatient when growth and change or knowledge doesn’t come as rapidly as we want it to. We mistake times…

    Finding the Pagan Way

Many people are under the impression that faeries are largely a Victorian invention, but as most people with even a passing interest in them will tell you,- earth spirits have been encountered since the dawn of mankind. They are mentioned by various names in most, if not all, cultures. The faeries are a large part of my life, and are constant,- though usually invisible, companions. Yet I would not describe myself as a member of the “Faery Faith” I dislike the term “Faery faith”,- for me it is not a matter of faith but of personal experience. For myself, and many others the existence of faeries is not a matter…

The Hermit’s Light: Carrying the Balance into the Dark Ahead The Great Wheel turned once again and just a few weeks ago we found ourselves at the place of the Autumnal Equinox. Each Sabbat flows in process of energy, one to the other. What and how we choose to celebrate and honor these turnings of the Great Wheel has both subtle and overt impact on how we navigate the days and months following. It is with this intention that I offer this writing and reflection on a Sabbat of balance and the gift of exploration of the Light within the dark spaces of quiet and surrender. The Equinoxes astronomically mark…
