WiseWoman Traditions
The Medicine Wheel of Plant Uses (Part One of Five) There is so much to learn about herbs and healing. How can we assure ourselves of our own competence? How can we feel safe in our recommendations? How can we know which herb is best to use for a particular person? Do we need a system of diagnosis interlocked with categories of herbs? (For instance, the four-humor theory that categorizes illnesses and herbs according to the humors, or the Ayurvedic system that divides people into three types and selects herbs accordingly.) These are questions that have concerned healers for thousands of years and still concern us today. I do not…

Spell Struck
QUICK On-The-Go Spell to Remove Poverty, Lack & Restrictions from One’s Life No matter what types of spells I write, I inevitably get many, many requests to do more “money, abundance” spells. It’s not that there’s not a ton of those out there already, but everyone across the board seems to still be struggling with having abundance free-flow in their lives (my name can be added to the list of strugglers, lol, although I am seeing results well from a change in my thinking and a very focused intent…) Given that this time of year can be the time that people think of vacations and getting away from it all,…

Lavender’s Corner
This month I think it’s important to cover safety and Carrier oils. Carrier oils also have their own properties, each one is different to the next and these too can be blended together for different reasons. Olive oil For example is thick in consistency so you may wish to add a little grapeseed oil, which is a very thin oil. Most Carrier oils lack smell, but are rich in nourishment. They make a great base oil for an essential oil blend. A carrier oil is used to dilute essential oils and absolutes. They are diluted before use on the skin, so that the essential oils are safer. Some can give…

Greetings from Afar
The Teddybear on My Desk You never saw him while you were here. You’d have laughed just like the rest. You’d have thought it was ‘quaint’ or ‘funny’, Or ‘a little bit nuts’ at best. You’d have thought he was old and ‘dated’. You’d have thought it some kind of jest. So when you came to call, I hid him from you — The Teddybear on my desk. He’s right back where he belongs now. Right where he’s always been. Back where he smiles at everyone And they smile back at him. Among the clutter and photos, Ledgers and books and the rest He sits and stares and smiles at…

Book Review: Psychic Self-Defense
Psychic Self-Defense by Dion Fortune © 2001 Red Wheel/Weiser ISBN: 978-1-57863-509-2 272 pages Paperback $16.95 (U.S.) This is a classic in the occult literature. That means that everyone knows it; everyone discusses it; but very few people have ever taken the time to actually READ it. Of course it is dry reading. Of course it appears dated (it was originally written in 1930), and difficult to wade through. None of that, however, is important. What is important is that Dion Fortune (nee Violet Firth) was both a pioneering psychoanalyst and a practicing ceremonial magician. This unique perspective allowed her to approach the problem of “psychic attack” from multiple points of…

MoonOwl Observations
Litha- The Summer Solstice Litha is the summer solstice and it usually takes place between June 20th and 22nd. It is the longest day of the year since Litha is when the sun reaches its high point in the sky. It is also known as Midsummers night’s eve and stems from Saxon tradition. It is a low holiday and a lesser sabbat that the majority of modern pagans celebrate. There is some debate as to whether or not ancient pagans celebrated it or not. Of course there are monuments that were built to highlight the rising of the sun on the summer solstice. Stonehenge is the most well…

Across the Great Divide
“Haunted House for Rent” Haunted houses have been the stuff of local legend for generations; often these stories are exploited by Hollywood. Sometimes, though, there’s nothing fun about the experience, as the thought of sharing a home with an unexpected guest is no laughing matter. Josue Chinchilla and Michele Callan, of Toms River, New Jersey, filed a lawsuit against their home owner, declaring that the rental property is also the residence of at least one paranormal entity and that this was never disclosed to them before moving in. They believe they had no choice but to flee the property, along with their two…

Myths and Legends: Journeys Through Time
“Arabian niiiiiiiiights, like arabian daaaaaaaaaaays, More often then not, Are hotter than hot in lots of good ways..”~Arabian Nights Disney’s Aladdin 1992-1993. Aladdin is the first Disney movie that I really, really loved. The Little Mermaid was pretty good…but a little bit too long for my taste at the time, and there were a lot of overtones I didn’t understand. Aladdin however… Aladdin made me laugh. Specfically Genie made me laugh. Hey it was Robin Williams..who wouldn’t laugh? I idolized Genie. I told my mom that I wish I could find a magic lamp and have Genie come out of it and hang out with me. It wasn’t…

Pertho’s Pronouncements
The School of Life I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the future. My life, in a way, has slowed down. It’s that feeling of the same thing, day after day. But when I look closer, it’s not doing that at all. I’m experiencing new things every day. In other words, every day is not EXACTLY the same, even though the same activities take place, and therefore, my perceptions of them are not the same either. My mind is still taking everything in, and I’m finding myself looking inward more and more. The time in which we are human has been compared to being in school. When we…
