A Walk on the Pagan Path
My husband and I have made a very important decision this month and it is a decision that will no doubt change life as we have known it for many years. We have decided that we will become farmers. Now for many of you, this may not seem like that big of a deal, but I can barely contain myself with all of the emotions I am feeling. As my husband starts the planning process and obtaining the necessary equipment, I find myself thinking of all the possibilities. Some of the things that I find myself thinking about may be strange to others. However, it is the natural mental process…

The Crafty Writer
The dragons of olde dream the dreams of times gone by. Of when their wings would spread wide to catch the air that would lift them on high. The armor plated scales of their chest still shone bright. Fore the fires that burned deep within heated those so hot that when their flames burst forth, they would light up the night sky, telling all that dragons ruled. Now the elders lay upon their horded treasures, which remind them of the days of olde. There are still dragons within the world today that are growing old as they fly among the mountain tops. They have no fear of man, but also…

Hally’s Hints
Travelling in Dreams I never really thought that much about the impact of my dreams. I understand the varying levels of what is reflected; when something is being communicated from a different plane and the subtle premonitions of the oncoming future. However, there is another aspect to dreams which leaves me wondering. The Native American Indians believe that our dreams are the portal to the spirit world. This is such a passionate belief of theirs that there is strict protocol of what to do and what not to do when waking from sleep. There are four to five stages of sleep. This varies generally based on whether it is a…

Pagan Theology
Pagan theology: What good is it? Given that I’ve written 27 of these columns I thought I’d stop and think a little bit about Pagan theology and the role it does, or should, play in our faith. One of the things that makes Pagan theology complicated is that different people focus on different aspects of the theological question. When you talk theology you can be referring to what we believe; for example, why do we cast the clockwise circle and what does it mean. Or you can be referring to why the things we do work, what I would refer to as relating our faith to our existence in the…

Myths and Legends: Journeys Through Time
Loki Mischief, jokes, puns, trickery, buffoonery, clownish, childish, foolish antics. All these words and more are used to describe somebody who’s acting goofy or silly. These words also describe the sort of actions that fall under the realm of the Trickster Gods. In every mythology there is at least one god, goddess or being that is considered a trickster. For the Native Americans it was the Coyote and the Raven, for the Greeks it was Prometheus, Hermes, Sisyphus and others, the Celtics had leprechauns, fairies, and beings of that nature. The Norse pantheon however had Loki. In fact..mention the words Trickster God and the first person most people name is…

Faeries, Elves, and Other Kin
Midsummer Eve: Second Faerie Festival of the Year By Kat Cranston Midsummer Eve, also known as Litha, Samradh, Alban Hefin, Aerra Litha, Mother Night, and St. John’s Eve, is the second of the three yearly Faerie Realm festivals. This sabbat is tied to the Summer Solstice, which occurs on 21 June in the Northern Hemisphere this year. The other two faerie festivals occur on May Eve and November Eve (Samhain). Midsummer Eve is a sabbat that has a lot of faerie lore attached to it. This is the time when entrance to the faerie realm is easiest and faerie mounds are practically “open to the public!” Faerie powers are at…

Auras
The spirit level of the aura is the third and largest. It extends the furthest from the body and is generally the easiest to see. This level is the most likely to stay the same color throughout our life with few variations unless faced with a massive life altering situation such as a severe illness or near death experience. As always changes in this level can affect us in other aspects of our life. Our spiritual path is perhaps our most important as it gives us direction. Time and fate are confusing for people because they are both linear and non linear. This seems like a contradiction and impossible. We…

Finding Balance: A Meditation
Balance is tenuous, it is delicate and hard to maintain. The hustle and bustle of our daily lives often pushes us out of harmony with those around us and our spirituality. So, how do we pull everything back into alignment? I find the best lessons always present themselves when we need them and are ready to truly listen. I recently went to the Botanical Gardens here in St. Louis with a couple of friends. While we were enjoying the morning, taking photos, and discussing a variety of topics my friend related to me the story of the Japanese garden and how it was laid out. Everything had been done in…

Rebel Rede
To Hex or Not to Hex When I first became a witch the word Hex was not in my vocabulary. In the beginning of my witchcraft studies I learned that “good” witches do not believe in hexing. Wiccans and most other Pagans do not use magic for any type of negative spells, especially the witches who follow the Wiccan Rede, “An ye harm none…” This is one of the reasons that the mundane community often refers to Wiccans as “white witches” or why you hear the term “white magic.” Just like most beliefs systems and cultures though, what you first learn is only the beginning. Once you start to scratch the…
