Can Being Pagan Hurt Our Kids

Our lives are centered around our two active, inquisitive daughters. They are always wanting to know what “this” is or what “that” does, or why I wear a pentacle. They love to touch my everyday altar items, eager to see what they feel like or what they do. Our youngest especially likes to touch these things, they are fun for her. I try to use things that are kid friendly just for this reason. Recently I decided to start introducing and teaching our children about some of the basics. Our youngest will not be learning much since she is only two. The oldest, who is eight, already knows her directions,…

    It’s in the Cards

Dear Reader, Welcome to ‘It’s In the Cards’ for www.PaganPages.org. At one time this column appeared in Finer Things Magazine in New Haven, CT, and I am very pleased to be writing my column again; this time for the Pagan Community. Every month, I will do a tarot reading for one person whose question I choose for this column. Also, by writing me, you will have a chance for a free tarot 10 minute reading on the phone. If you would like to contact me about purchasing a reading, please visit my web site at www.SubRosaMagick.com or write me at [email protected]. Since I first began reading for the public 13…

    Pagan Theology

Experiencing The Work:  How You Deal With the World With the past few columns I’ve been talking about some things that happen to us when we have a transformative experience with the divine.  Wiccans might refer to this transformative experience as “Drawing Down the Moon”.   I personally would say that this is our interaction with our Gods and Goddesses.  Any of these experiences should make us different either in our soul or within ourselves.   Just how different will depend on what we see, how we interact with the Gods and Goddesses, and, ultimately (and for some unfortunately) who we are, as no two people are alike or are as open…

    Wise Woman Traditions

Hot Colds and Cold Colds – Winter Health Winter is coming. So are colds and the flu. Here are some tips for preventing these viral illnesses. And for getting well fast if you do get sick. Preventing colds and the flu can be summed up in three words: Wash your hands. The viruses that cause colds and the flu most readily enter our bodies by means of our hands. Wash your hands after shopping. Remind your children to wash their hands as soon as they come home from school. A little “hysterical hygiene” goes a long way to keeping colds at bay. Of course, there are herbs that can be…

    Hally’s Hints

What is Your Gift? The phone rings and you guess who it is. You look outside and it looks as though it is about to rain. You wish silently to yourself that it would be great if it were sunny. Half an hour later the sun comes out, even though it hadn’t been forecast. There are so many things that happen every day and yet we dismiss it as being co-incidental. We do not stop to consider that perhaps there is something deeper and more intense happening. Perhaps these things only happen to others… As children we take things at face value. Most of us can recall times where we…

    Why the Full Moon?

There is a common misconception that Wiccans worship the full moon.  Simply put, that’s pony poop.  We worship at the time of the full moon and we use the moon and its phases as a religious symbol, a spiritual metaphor.  Let me explain: For Wiccans, there are two sort of ‘generic’ deities, the god and the goddess.  Another way of stating it is that there are projective (sometimes called ‘positive’) and receptive (sometimes called ‘negative’) forces from which the universe is derived.  The god (projective, positive, etc.) is said to be the one that produces the energy, while the goddess (receptive, negative, etc.) takes it and shapes it into everything…
