Storytelling Alchemy is a self-help book written by Mx. Damoiselle. Storytelling Alchemy is about the Story You Tell Yourself (SYTY) and how to change it and write a happy ending for your life. Everyone has a story (several of them) we tell people about who we are. Then there are those stories that we don’t share with others; you know the ones of which I talk. Those are the stories for which Mx. Damoiselle wrote this self-help book.

The first chapter is broken down into two different paths; one is mundane; the other one is magickal. The second chapter list seven tools that you need for your toolkit:

• Mindset

• Storytelling Journal

• Meditation

• Ritual

• Sacred Space

• Mindfulness/Senses

Mx. Damoiselle presents a way to write a fairytale about the SYTY and write a happy ending for yourself. Reminds me of the quote that appeared on my Facebook feed “Although no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.” (James R Sherman, Ph.D. from his book titled Rejection]) This book is about creating a new end for yourself.

Mx. Damoiselle shares many personal stories, both the true story of what happened to her and the Fairytale she wrote to help her achieve her happy ending. She didn’t change the facts of the story, but by writing it in a fairytale form, she was able to observe the situation without reliving any trauma that took place.

Mx. Damoiselle also talks about past students who went through the workshop and instead of writing a fairytale, they used songs, collages, and other forms of art to tell their personal stories.

The author created this book because too many times, we allow our past to define who we are today. Yes, our experiences made us who we are today. But, by working through all the trauma’s, at least the ones we are willing to face right now, we can heal and see that we can still have a happy life.

Mx. Damoiselle, has created a book that allows the reader to use the format of the Fairytale, The author uses the structure of the “Hero’s Journey” from Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” as the structure for the Fairytale:

• The Call to Adventure

• Supreme Ordeal/Initiation

• Unification/Transformation

• Road Back/Hero’s Return

Mx. Damoiselle closes the book with the Poem” Invictus.” I do see this poem as a proper closing for this book. We should all see ourselves as “unconquered.” There is Magick in this book. But that I leave to those who pick up this book and do the Work of their Will to manifest the changes you want to embrace in your healing.

I had a great time writing my happy ending to the SYTY for me. It helped me become stronger, and it got me back into the habit of doing a daily ritual for myself and connecting with my power.
