Stellar Applications
Current Astrology Using Hermetic Applications
Welcome to Stellar Applications….
….a new column for PaganPagesOrg e-zine that will explore the current astrology and how you can access the fullest measure of its potency through application of other Hermetic disciplines.
Last issue I offered you some basics of astrology as foundations for what is coming ahead. This issue I am going to share the astrological assignments to the Major Arcana of the Tarot and some astrological highlights of Beltane. There is a lot that can be gleaned from the astrology/tarot connections and when you apply these to your natal birth chart an additional layer of understanding is revealed.
Let’s take a quick look at the astrological wheel and the distribution of the Tarot cards of the Major Arcana. We are currently in the cycle of Sun in Taurus, so the energy that overlays with the Tarot is Key V: The Hierophant and the Empress (ruling planet of Venus).
Key V: The Hierophant of the Tarot resonates with power that has been honed by spiritual practice and wisdom that has been experienced through the lens of all manner of creative processes. There is an aspect of mercy and understanding of fellow humans and the ease of navigation beyond the veils of the physical world.
When we weave the magick of the Hierophant’s command of the spiritual and the mundane we find a similar polarity of exchange that flows through Beltane. This season is one of reciprocity and quickening of the collaboration between masculine and feminine, spiritual and physical and using this potent energy to cross the liminal space of the veils of creation-both physical and metaphorically.
Key III: The Empress of the Tarot embodies the receptivity of offering one’s self to become the vessel for new growth. She is depicted surrounded by lush greenery, flowers and life and she herself could be perceived as being pregnant and full ready to issue forth what has been tended and cared for under her watchful eye. As the card of the ruling planet of Taurus, Venus, there is the anticipated gift of the emotional, the collaboration of energies and a refinement that arises from a state of beauteous harmony.
Seasonally, the combined energies of the Hierophant and the Empress make for a very commanding co-creation; one arising from the realms of spiritual pursuit and the other from the verdancy and potency of matter/earth.
The Hierophant represents what is possible when we co-create with our spiritual nature and use this collaboration as a foundation to continue our interactions in service to humanity. In the fires of Beltane we reach out to our other and allow the pulse of life’s creativity to call us into union, an act of service to the joy and creative power held within humanity. And, when that reach encompasses the feminine flow of nurturing and being the container where new life begins, there is the spark of quickening that Beltane holds as its promise. When we unabashedly revel in the delights of being human we are able to more fully and deeply appreciate the gifts of our spirit.
Other Fun Applications:
You can also use these correspondences for your natal brith chart as well. The primary three aspects of Sun – Moon and Rising Sign are great places to begin aligning how these energies support one another. For instance, my:
Sun sign is Aquarius = The Star and the Fool (Uranus is the ruling Planet)
Moon sign is Scorpio = Death and Judgment (Pluto is the ruling planet)
Rising/Ascendant is Gemini = Lovers and the Magician (Mercury is the ruling planet)
Next issue I’ll get into the specific of what this means. For this space of time, however, you could use this info as an exercise towards intuiting how these keys of the Major Arcana may interact with what you know of your astrological sign(s).
In the next Issue we will look at how to apply the Major Arcana of the Tarot to your natal chart and the Summer Solstice.
