A long slow exhale and a deep Soulful inhale for Brianna, for myself, and for humanity while reading Brianna Ladapo’s Emerging from Darkness memoir. First I’d like to share that this book speaks of many forms of abuse, manipulation, deceit, and ways of perceiving reality. This book is aimed more for those readers that are unraveling their own belief constructs from the traditional worldviews and narratives of mainstream society, as well as those healing from their own family traumas. I say this with compassion for differing perspectives and beliefs, as the author agrees, everyone is on their own Soul’s journey and each journey is unique. Additionally, the reader could experience some triggers while reading Brianna’s personal accounts and fits readers who have at least begun opening their own Pandora’s box of abuse and/or toxic familial experiences. The author shares her perspectives very openly and passionately around the pandemic and could differ from reader perspectives. With all that in mind this book could be a great companion for those who are seriously unraveling their conscious and unconscious somatic programming and looking to find inspiration while they continue their voyage towards mind, body, and spirit wholeness.

Brianna Ladapo expresses how ultimately she had a choice to continue to repress her authentic self or be embodied in her Soul’s union. She shared, “What I had not counted on was the fact that, however painful and destructive it was to live with constant turmoil of being the family freak, it was not remotely comparable to the turmoil precipitated by the denial of one’s soul.” After much Soul searching and healthier lifestyle choices she admitted, “I could not deny who I was anymore.” The book unravels her journey from her separation from her biological family to starting her own family with her husband, her husband’s repressed traumas as well as her own, and their dedication to their health and honesty within themselves and within their lives as a family. Their devotion to uncovering and breaking ancestral cycles somatically and relationally was admirable and deeply moving. I couldn’t help feeling we as humans could all probably see parts of ourselves in what Brianna so bravely shared of her own personal experiences. She emphasized how she had to take full responsibility for her wellbeing and health in order to break toxic cycles and be able to move forward.

The book speaks of the disempowering ways we engage with our lives, such as staying stuck to our victim consciousness, but it also speaks of empowering ways we can engage with our transformation consciously and deliberately. The author goes into detailed descriptions of how we can activate our self-love, speak with honesty, clarity, and vulnerability, consume consciously, choose divine relationships, meditate, create, trust our intuition, exercise our sovereignty, take responsibility for our energy, focus on the positive, lead by example, and balance our giving and receiving capacity. Although this book gives voice to systemic discrepancies, imbalances, and traumas it also details how we can navigate our healing and start telling our story so we can ultimately write a new one. Brianna Ladapo did just that, she wrote not only a beautiful new story but is creating a beautiful new life for herself and her children. She emphasizes the importance it is for each of us to do our part to create a society that works for everyone and not just a select few. She advocates for transmuting our fear by admitting the wrongdoings and confronting them one by one. She goes on to say, all our experiences have created an opportunity for growth. The more we uncover, the more room to grow beyond and choose better for ourselves, our children, future generations, and society at large. This book is a brave woman’s journey traversing her own shadows and illuminating what’s possible when we come back to our Soul’s truth and Divine union. It was an honor to sit and listen to Brianna Lapado’s story. It gives hope to humanity and paves a way for what is possible.
