This is Anjie’s second book, the first one being Holistic Spaces, which was written a full decade after her introduction to meditation and Feng Shui.

In the book Mindful Homes, Anjie introduces herself and speaks to her personal journey and how she sees the connection between mindfulness and feng shui. The energy flow or chi is explained, and how it impacts the spaces we occupy. Mindfulness and how we can create calm within our bodies, and how our physical space impacts our body, mind, and spirit is of great importance to her methodology of mindfulness and feng shui.

She devotes full chapters to the importance of specific areas of your home – bedroom, kitchen and workspace. The focus is not only on the physical space but how you feel and react within the space. She wraps up the book in the final chapter by bringing together the importance of home and community.

Anjie shares five simples concepts that she suggests are how to use this book. These five “rules” are a delicious blend of mindfulness and how this energy is transposed to the spaces around us. The concepts of Feng Shui are presented in a very concise and easy to understand manner. Many practitioners present the practice of feng shui as very mystical, causing some confusion with religion and superstition. Feng Shui is neither. By articulating the parallels with mindfulness and meditation Anjie makes it easy for the reader to understand the concepts of clearing your mind and clearing your space.

The book is very well written and beautifully illustrated. One can almost achieve a calm state by simply looking at the images. Anjie is cautious to acknowledge cultural appreciation and uses specific examples that she uses when teaching her class.
