After taking a short break for self-care and rest, I’m back and have a few reviews and at least one column to get out for you to peruse. So here goes…

This one took me a little longer to read, but it did not disappoint! I’ve been longing to find a concise book on this subject that lays out what you need to know so you can start casting and interpreting charts for matters concerning world events, politics, economics and more. While I personally would advise to learn natal astrology (birth charts, horoscopes, etc), Greer explains the nuances of this art that’s finally getting a revival so clearly that anyone of any level could read this book and begin working with this system of astrology.

The Astrology of Nations comes to us at a crucial juncture in the history of the United States, as well as the world. We’re beginning to see frayed international relations, wars, populist and right-wing fanatical leaders and so much more, reminiscent of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Greer even takes a (in)famous example, the 1939 Aries Ingress chart where one astrologer (whom I won’t name here but is mentioned in the book) misinterpreted, and predicted peace over Europe that year. Of course, for those of us who payed in attention in history class, know how that one panned out. I appreciate Greer’s willingness to approach this subject from the basic, foundational levels and build up the system and interpretations from there, making it so that anyone of any level of experience can become adequately adept at this art to begin experimenting themselves.

The Astrology of Nations is a book I’ll be referring to time and again as I embark on my journey in mundane astrology, and I will recommend it to a good many other Astro-Nerds I know. I plan to implement what I’ve learned in this book into my Astrology practices and continue to grow and expand upon it. As a last side-note, I have read Greer’s work on Druidry, but this is my first read of his astrological works; I will have to look at his other astrological books! I have no critiques for this book, and give it a 5/5 pentagram rating.

John Michael Greer has been initiated into multiple esoteric orders, including from the Masonic, Druidic, and Hermetic lineages. John is the author of numerous books, including a personal favorite, The Celtic Golden Dawn as well as The Druidry Handbook. He recently turned his longtime interest in the stars into a drive to become a political astrologer. He lives in Rhode Island.
