    Across the Great Divide

Paranormal Communication             To exist is to communicate. Bees in a hive; a pack of wolves on the hunt; two women in a coffee shop; – even the phones we text each other with-; effective communication is occurring everywhere around us every day and in various forms both organic and artificial.             Humans are quite egocentric when it comes to the physical world and their professed mastery of it. If they cannot hear it, see it, touch it, or understand it then it doesn’t exist or is laughed off as the illogical ramblings of the foolish. A common- and clichéd- axiom is “if a tree falls and no…

    Spiritual Seeker

The world seems to get a little smaller every day. Back with I was pre-teen, I thought it was amazing that I had a penpal in Fiji. I thought everyone was Christian. Catholicism was as exotic as it got, and being a Jehovah’s Witness was so far out there it nearly blew my mind when I met one. Now, I have friends that live in South Africa, New Zealand, Brazil, and many other countries. I know people from so many different religions that I’ve nearly lost count. However, while I love the diversity of our modern world, it is leading to many significant issues that our society needs to address.…

Bare Feet on an Earth Path

Note: When I first started writing here at Pagan Pages, I decided to write about how I came to paganism.  But as I sat down and began writing, I realized just how messy a story it really was. It felt too deeply personal for my first column here, so instead, I published a different, somewhat lighter article on the topic. I have received some comments on my posts since then and feel blessed to know that my articles are touching readers. Writing, for me, is about being raw, about being real, and I believe that I am at my best as a writer when I am those things. This is…

Dorothy L Abrams: Magic, Ethics and Standing in your Power Dorothy is the author of Identity and the Quartered Circle which is out through Moon Books and available now. She is also a co-founder of the Web PATH Centre, a pagan church and teaching centre near her home in Clyde, New York. Mabh: You’ve been active in the magical community for many, many years, yet Identity and the Quartered Circle is first book. What inspired you to write this? Dorothy: I finished teaching the first fully successful Wicca IV class…

Book Review: The Qabalah Workbook for Magicians

The Qabala Workbook for Magicians By Anita Kraft © 2013 Weiser Books ISBN: 978-1-57863-535-1 167 pages Paperback $19.95 (U.S.)  I found The Qabalah Workbook for Magicians to be very imforative and not just for magicians but for anyone in the CraftWitchy. In the chapter on how to use the book the author discusses such things as altar cloths, tarot cards, perfumes, candles and more. While these are geared to setting up an altar for the different Sephiroth, the information could be expanded for use on just about any alter. For one not overly familiar with Qabalah I found the information to be very thorough and easy to follow.   After…

    MoonOwl Observations

Pele Pele is a Polynesian Goddess of volcanic fire, lightening, wind, volcanoes and sorcery. She is a popular figure in many stories of ancient Hawaii known as Hawaiian mythology. She was born of the female spirit Hina. It is told that she sailed to Hawaii because she was being pursued by her older sister Na-maka-o-kahaí because Pele seduced her husband. She originally landed on Kauaí, but due to her sister flooding her homes, she moved down a chain of islands and ended up landing on Mauna Loa, one of the world’s tallest mountains. Her sister could not send her waves high enough so Pele ended up staying there. Her brothers…

    Antiquarian Witch

Prof. Allan Anderson, of San Diego State University, once advised his students to “begin building a world for yourself from the inside out.”  The word ‘world’ is often used to translate the Greek kosmos, and refers to the world as it appears to our senses, with a dome overhead and a horizon around us.  Ignorant people unaware of this meaning of the word think that scriptural references to the roundness of the world prove that ancient peoples knew the planet earth to be round.  Until classical times, the concept of the earth as a planet was nonexistent.    When we use the ancient concept of a cosmos, therefore, we…

    Tarot Talk

Let’s talk about another Six card this month, the Six of Swords.  In the Tarot Minor Arcana, the Six cards are kind of unique, in part because of the properties of the number 6, and in part because of the properties of the Sephira corresponding to the Tarot Sixes on the Tree of Life.  Before we talk about the Six of Swords, if you haven’t read October’s essay on the Six of Pentacles, and in particular the information regarding the number 6, please do so now.   The Six cards of the Tarot offer the concept of forward momentum achieved through victory over the obstacles presented by Four (in the…
