Greetings from Afar
I’ll Never Leave You, Mama It was a warm and sunny day in late spring, and the two little boys had been out, like most of the local children, playing in the forest, and picking berries… a common enough passtime for a pair of six years olds in a sleepy little Russian village. It was 1962… a tense year for the world as a whole, but not so tense for the inhabitants of Stoyietal, which, having been bypassed by the recently constructed M-8 Motorway, was a lethargic place, with most of the local “community” life centered around the usual Russian activites of work, school, The Party and The Church. The…

Paranormal Path
Imaginary Friend? There is a theory, occasionally a controversial theory, that the paranormal, ghosts, entities, etc, are best seen by children and animals. Why is this? Children and animals are very “pure”. Most do not know what a ghost really is. The best way I can explain this is to imagine a filter in our brains that will tell us what is “rational” and what we see is reality and what we do not see or cannot make sense of therefore cannot exist. The words “There is no such thing” are rarely spoken unless a reason is brought to our attention. The older we get the more that filter develops…

Rose Embyrs
April Fertility Spell When the hasty weather of March leaves your doorstep, the winds of April will begin. In mid-April, a full Wind Moon or Seed Moon will muster in a time of new beginnings. Set aside fertility correspondences until the moon is high, then spread your favorite seeds into the air and into the ground. Wild flowers will spring up everywhere soon and your this action-spell for conception or fertility will be answered. Revel in the splendor of the Goddess as she wakens the trees, sleeping daffodils and makes your herb garden potent. Give roots to what you need growing in your life. A new relationship, riches or insight?…

For the History Keepers
you, who sing the histories, who hold the memories, the hearts and souls lift up your voices round the fire and bless the ones who went before. sing to the gods of battles fought, and won, praise well the heroes – all who lived and kept their honour with the Ones who guarded well their souls. lift to the gods the ones who stayed behind, those who held the home-place safe from harm. honour the children, new-woven in the thread of life which ties us all to those who lived so many lives before. and honour well the ones who love the gods today, keeping them, claimed, within their hearts…

The Crowe’s Nest
Inner Beauty Many times in life, women look at themselves in the mirror. They see little imperfections and usually those little blemishes look like massive craters in their skin. Most of the time it is simply a small inconsistency in the skin or a scratch that it takes a truly trained professional to find. To the beholder, it is something far more gruesome and painful to bear. It is a nightmare to have a pimple or blackhead and in polite company is it against the rules to mention these issues surrounding beauty. Amazingly enough, beauty is an ideal that withstands the hands of time. So many people over the years…

Musings of a Massachusetts Witch
The Myth of Hell Being raised by Roman Catholic parents who attend Church every Sunday it should hold no doubt that I was taught about Hell and Satan. I also attended a parochial high school and then studied the Catechism as an adult. During all the studying I was continuously being reminded that Satan was ‘the great tempter‘ and Hell was where I was bound to go if I committed mortal sins. Even when I converted to the Methodist Church I still carried the beliefs of Satan and Hell with me though something just didn’t ‘feel right‘ about it. It wasn’t until I started a Bible Study with one of…

Meditation Moment
Connection and Context Last month, I talked about letting go of time to be wholly in the present moment. Worrying about a few pieces of the past or future disconnects us from the present moment, and also leads us to ignore the rest of the past and future as well. Being wholly in the present moment is an experience of mystery and delight; each present moment, taken by itself, connects to all the moments, past and future. The immediacy of the present moment and the eternity of all moments have more in common with each other than they do with our usual ways of understanding and experiencing time. Meditation can…

Myths and Legends: Journeys Through Time
Faeries Tinkerbell was one. Thumbelina was rumored to be one. Amy Brown is famous for her drawings and art of them. Little girls love them. The Grimm Brothers wrote tales about them…well not exactly about them but tales within their realm. What or who are they? They’re fairies. More specifically…the fae or fair folk. Fairy is derivative of an old Middle English word, faierie also spelled fayerye, feirie, and feirie, which in itself is pulled from the the Old French language; faerie or in Modern French féerie. Originally this word meant, not the people but the land, activity, or characteristic of legendary people of folklore and romance. People like Hercules,…

Enchanting Eats
Bean & Corn Salad You were probably expecting something with eggs, right? We all know eggs have long stood as the symbol for fertility and of spring. This refreshing salad combines three symbosl we may have overlooked. Beans have been known to spure desire, the required action prior to fertilization. In this recipe, you will find three varieties: kidney, garbanzo, and pinto. Corn is another symbol of fertility, as it is one of our main food sources across the globe. Its bright yellow color is a nod to the Sun, as well as the daffodils and chrysanthemums that are in bloom all over my region. Onions have also been associated…
