energy

ZAP!

Blacksun June, 2010

Energy is what gets things done.  We use energy to make changes whether we’re talking about magic or the mundane.  If you’ve taken a bunch of science classes or just watched Star Trek, you’ve heard a lot about energy… all kinds of energy.  So, since you’ve used it, and heard about it, and a good deal of the conversations you’ve had with your fellow magic workers has been about energy, tell me:  WHAT IS ENERGY?

Physics is basically the study of energy.  You learn about how to measure the various kinds of energy, what they do, what to call them, how to manipulate them, even how to generate them.  And one of the basic principles of science is that you can neither create nor destroy energy.

Wait a second, if you can’t create and you can’t destroy energy, how can you generate it?  Let’s look at an electrical generator and see what’s going on:

Most electricity is generated by moving a magnet around and around until it produces this electricity stuff – pretty simple, actually.  But, you see, there’s the rub.  Moving something requires energy.  Not electrical energy, movement of objects is known as kinetic energy.  And then there’s that magnet thingy; magnetism is a kind of energy too.  So we’ve got two sorts of energy involved in generating electrical energy.

Hmmm.

Okay, let’s look at how we use electrical energy.  Take the light bulb for instance.  The electricity goes in at the base of the bulb and we get light.  Light isn’t electrical energy.  And we get heat.  Heat isn’t electrical energy either.  And, remember that magnet we used to generate the electricity?  You can use electricity to make a magnetic field too.

All these different kinds of energy seem to be related, don’t they?  Well, big surprise, they are.  They all represent the same activity when you get right down to it: change.  All the various ways we name the various forms of energy are nothing more than convenient ways to talk about how we use energy… how we make changes.  We don’t really make energy; we only use it in selective ways.

Well now, you’ve now received your required lesson in physics.  How about METAphysics?  What’s different about magical energy when compared to mundane energy?

Not a bloody thing.

We can’t create magical energy any more than we can create mundane energy.  The same goes for its destruction.  All we can do is harness it (using some kind of energy) and transform it (using maybe another kind of energy).  And we can direct it (another thing that requires energy) and we can make it do all sorts of other tricks.  Once again, what we call it is almost the least important part about it.

Without getting technical, energy really is ONE THING: change.  If you want to generate energy—magical or mundane – all you have to do is find a way for two things to have some kind of relationship.

This is where it gets to be fun.

One of the basic premises of every magical system is a simple idea: everything is connected.  Are you beginning to see the possibilities?

If everything is connected, then you can get energy out of any two things in the universe!  But, before you try to get atomic fission from your two goldfish, let me explain that some types of energy are easier to produce from two goldfish than other types of energy.  That’s just the way the world is, so try not to fight it too much, okay?

Most magical training involves learning how some kinds of energy are produced more easily from certain relationships than other kinds.  But, if you only have two goldfish, maybe you should start small and build on your successes.

Let’s say you want to generate a lot of heat and all you’ve got to work with is two goldfish.

Rubbing two goldfish together might generate friction and friction can turn into heat.  But I think the goldfish might not be able to generate that much heat before they expire and, besides, rubbing them together might be considered somewhat cruel, especially by the goldfish.  And remember: everything’s connected and when you do something cruel to one thing it’s likely to bring cruelty down on you.  So let’s think of another way, okay?

Why not put a little energy into selling the goldfish?  Maybe you bought them for five dollars each.  Surely you can think of some way to fancy them up in the minds of potential buyers and sell them for eight dollars each.  It might take some doing, but it’s not impossible, is it?

When you sell them, send them off with a tearful farewell and count your sixteen dollars with great glee.  Because sixteen bucks can get you a young tarantula!  Now, you might not want a tarantula, but somebody does and those critters can live off of your bug infested back yard trimmings easily enough.  That’ll make it grow bigger.

Big enough to be sold for thirty dollars.  In the mean time, you can entertain your friends by claiming that your tarantula is really the product of two goldfish.  That ought to make your friends scratch their heads a little.

Congratulations, you now have thirty dollars and you’ve gotten rid of that creepy spider.  And thirty dollars can buy you six goldfish!  Which then you can sell for forty-eight bucks.  With forty-eight bucks, you can go down to the hardware store and buy a small catalytic heater.

Plug it in (to the electrical outlet) and voile! you can now generate a lot of heat.

Well, okay, maybe there are easier ways to generate a lot of heat.  Two goldfish might not be the best mechanism to do it.  But… if that’s all you’ve got, then go for it.

Take note that, beside the somewhat bazaar connections (but everything is connected!) and the bits of energy (advertising, trading, feeding, plugging in the heater, etc.) used along the way, the biggest use of energy was your mind.  A lot of magic is like that.  Magic takes a lot of mental energy.

But then, so did the first electrical generator.

For those of you who may be beginning your journeys into the world of magic, just remember that your mind, your ability to imagine and figure things out, is the greatest repository of magical energy ever produced.

Improving Humankind through Sexual Energy

**ADULT CONTENT

We have covered a fair variety of the different aspects of Sexual Magick; however, one of the most important reasons to perform Sexual Magick is for the betterment of Humanity.

Most folks that are interested in Magick or the Occult are aware that ancient fertility rites were performed for agricultural and religious purposes.

However, there has been, for long ages, a subtle line of thought that these same types of fertility rites can be used to induce the incarnation of a higher soul into the body of a human infant, heal people, or improve the land. In fact the Sanctity that many standard religions attach to marriage is based on similar concepts.

The basic idea is that a Child that is conceived in Love, and with the correct Intent will draw down a Higher Soul into the Vessel provided by the Ritualized Sexual Act. And that the combined sexual fluids of the participants provide a subtle medium that attracts the Creative energies of the Universe into itself.

The general gist is that if more people were purposely conducting such rites, the increase in Spiritually Advanced Incarnations in the general Populace would stimulate further evolutionary advances within Society… thus, propelling Humankind to new heights

Another way that these Sexual energies can be used for the betterment of humanity is through the same schema used to increase crop fertility in times of old. One simply focuses the energy to the Earth, or directed towards healing a person, etc.

The sexual energies or “Eros” require that one be able to conjure up the “Ojas” or “Lust” energies and then direct them.

One may devise a Mantra as discussed previously… and allow this Mantra (that you have practiced for months and months) to play itself automatically over and over, until it seems to be running in the background. This allows one to perform more naturally in the bedroom than more formal rites.

The “Intent” of the Mantra (whether for a “Magickal Child” or Healing, or whatever) should be evident in its spoken meaning… thus it is a Ritual that does not require focus. This allows more spontaneity between the couple.

The couple should slowly allow certain Psychic and erogenous centers to touch each other. The Chakras, Erogenous Zones, Taoist Centers, or Kabbalistic Sephiroth all provide an excellent Anatomical framework for such foreplay. This will gradually increase both the activity of the relevant Pscho-Sexual Centers, and synergistically increases the level of Ojas or “Magickal Lust” as well.

One may incorporate Ritual objects such as Feathers, or even Whips and Chains, or Vibrators… whatever floats your boat.

As the act is performed the Mantra should be allowed to play on, and at the moment of release, a sharp visual focus should be added. This is particularly powerful if both parties incorporate the Mantra and Visualization… especially so, if simultaneous orgasm is achieved.

Although fairly simple, this technique has a broad range of application.

If one really contemplates the potential power at their disposal through the Creative Energies of the Universe the potential is enormous.

Light / Dark Workers

It has been an interesting and roller coaster of a month. It started with what I thought was a bout of hormonal fluctuations only to have a discussion with a light worker and realised it was something much greater that something happening on a physiological level.

Many of us that work in the light, working on a very different vibrational level to those working on the dark side unfortunately will from time to time have the dark side decide to latch on. I liken this to those people that zap our energy however those on the dark side do so much more than that.

Do you ever recall a time where your actions were very different to how you usually are and you find yourself in dispute with someone you care about only to be shaking your head a couple of hours later wondering what had taken place?

Sometimes this can be the dark forces at play. I realise it sounds like a Star Wars type scenario however it is not too far from the truth.

There are light workers and then there are dark workers. I had always believed that I came from a family of light workers. Based on my earlier posts some of you will get that to my absolute astonishment I am a light worker from a dark working family. How I got myself into that is still bewildering. Nevertheless everything happens for a reason and out of the dark comes light, thus there is a benefit, a lesson that can be gained from any situation.

However, I digress…

There is so much happening on a deeper level than we are consciously aware which impacts us in many ways. The changes that have taken place this year from the changing personalities, increased insecurities due to the imbalances throughout the planet have caused such a ripple affect across many planes.  My clients have altered from those passionately wanting to change to completely disappearing to reappearing, all in a matter of a couple of weeks.

With all of this in mind, the dark workers have such an opportunity to play on everyone’s softer side to sway and manipulate. It is unfortunate and very frustrating to work with. I see many beautiful people succumbing only to come to me later on wondering why they went through what they did in the first place. I am forever grateful for the awareness and the ability to assist others on their journey. Much like those that assisted me come to be where I am today.

Dark workers, light workers, planetary imbalances, people scared, insecure seeking some stability and here we are. Dark workers do not hide behind religion or any kind of flamboyancy and often can attach to pure souls. Be aware of a change of energies at your work, when you socialise with your friends and keep some white sage tucked in your back pocket just in case an unwanted gust of wind finds its way into your home ready to disrupt you and your life.

These are uncertain times; however that doesn’t mean that you need to compromise on standing in your own truth and embracing the light that provides you the path to your evolution.

Reaching Reiki

with ReikiAwakening.com’s Alice Langholt

This month on Reaching Reiki I’m going to talk about Psychic Protection. For anyone who works with energy, whether Reiki, or other practices, protecting one’s energy is very important. Here’s why it’s important, and some ways to do it for yourself.

When we work with energy, either via meditation, yoga, Reiki, Tai Chi, or any other practices, what’s happening is we are raising our energetic vibration. What does that mean? We are heightening our senses to be intuitively aware of our energy and that around us. Our Higher Selves, Guides, Angels, and Archangels exist at higher vibrations, and it is via raising our vibration that we connect with others and these sources. Also existing at higher vibrations are thought forms, negative energies, entities and manifestations. These are undesirable to have attaching themselves to our energy, and they are attracted to our energy when it’s vibrating at their frequency.

Sometimes a negative energy will attach itself to us accidentally – when it’s released from another person and thinks we are the Light. Sometimes we unwittingly pick up negative energy from another person who is sending it out unknowingly. You can often sense a person who has negative energy, because that person may make you uncomfortable to be around. You may feel drained or tired out simply by being near that person. Sometimes negative energy will attach itself to us purposefully, sent knowingly by another person with intent to harm. The last two examples are known as Psychic Vampires – people who knowingly or unknowingly absorb your good energy or send out their negative energy to you.

Now let’s talk about protecting yourself! It’s good to work with the Light – to help others through Reiki or energy work, and help ourselves as well. So don’t toss out the process. Just learn to protect your energy – shield yourself from harm – and all will be well. There are many ways to do this. Here are some examples:

* Intention – this is very powerful! Every day upon getting up, before going to bed, before energy work of any kind, and as needed, intend that you be shielded in a white, golden, or blue cloak of light energy. Really imagine putting it on, zipping it up, and pulling on a big hood. This is your protection. Intend that it be so, and it will be.
* Cleanse your space – There are many ways to do this. One is by smudging – burning a sage smudge stick and wafting the smoke around every room you want to protect. Another is by putting crystals around the room. Crystals have lots of energy, and give off good energy, while absorbing negative. You may need to cleanse your crystals in salt, water, or via giving them Reiki.
* Ask for help – angels are there to help you. Just ask for angelic protection before bed, and before any sort of energy work. Ask, and tune in to feel them surrounding you with loving light and shielding. You can ask that angels be stationed in each room of your house, or the corners of the room you are in, or surrounding you. Don’t underestimate the power of asking the angels for help.
* Self-heal – Be sure to run energy through yourself regularly to clear out anything you don’t need, remove blockages, and help yourself. If you have Reiki or another energy healing practice, use that. If not, visualizing energy flowing in your crown and down your body, while visualizing energy coming up from the earth into your feet, both meeting at your heart will help connect you to the cosmos and the earth, and flush what does not serve you down and out, to replace it with fresh light energy from above. This is called Grounding, and it’s beneficial several times a day.

The bottom line? Be sure you are caring for yourself as you reach out to help others, or open yourself to connecting with higher energies. While energy work is important, enlightening, and increases your intuitive development, it also makes you vulnerable to negative stuff that’s out there. Learn to protect your energy to safely grow in your intuitive abilities and potential.

With love and light,

Alice

Light Inside the Darkness: Musings on Meditation and Energy Work

Luke Samuel March, 2009

The Secret Smile

In Esoteric Taoism they believe that high levels of chi energy can cause one’s emotional state to expand, whatever that may be. I can verify that from my own experience; meditate when you’re feeling good and you come away almost giddy. Meditate too often when you’re feeling down and you could end up dealing with your problems Kurt Cobain-style and that’s definitely not the end result most people want. Meditation, near as I can tell, does not change you, it simply makes you more of what you already are. The simple act of breathing and quieting the internal chatter can make you calmer, but it rarely changes the underlying emotional feeling.

Fortunately the Taoists recognized this potential trap and came up with exercises designed to create a happy, positive frame of mind, chief among these a useful set of visualizations called the inner smile. The original exercise involves smiling down into the body and encouraging the various internal organs to become “happy” organs, a process that sounds a bit strange to Westerners and can also be a bit time-consuming. Dr. Glenn J. Morris, founder of the Hoshinroshiryu, developed a version of the inner smile exercise that can be done quickly and effectively to achieve much of the same effects. He added in positive visualizations drawn his background in transpersonal psychology to increase the efficacy of the exercises. Dr. Morris’s variation, The Secret Smile, has been used by Hoshin students for several years to great effect. You can combine this with the exercises given from my previous columns to create a very powerful technique for positive thinking.

Exercise

1. Hit the position of choice. Initially, you’ll need to peace and quiet, but you’ll eventually get to the point when you can do this anywhere. Close your eyes and put your gaze up between your eyebrows. Slow down your breathing and pay attention to the phosphenes behind the eyes.
2. Put a smile on your face. If your tense, squeeze your muscles tightly – starting from the toes and working your way up to the head – and release. Do this three times and allow yourself to enjoy the relaxed feeling.
3. Bring the relaxed feeling up your legs, up the back, over the head and back down the front of the body to a point just two inches or so below the belly button. Use the Kinesthetic technique from last month to swirl the feeling around in your lower belly as if you were stirring a glass of chocolate milk. If you can, time it with your breathing: bring the feeling up the body on the IN breath and down the body on the OUT breath. Do this three times.
4. Remember a time when you did something you were immensely proud of, an event where other people recognized your achievement. Try to engage all the senses, remember the sights, sounds, scents, anything to make the memory more engaging. You should be associated in this memory (seeing through your own eyes instead of watching a movie of yourself). Eventually, let the imagery fade and hold onto the feeling. Take it down to your feet and repeat step 3. Breathe the feeling of pride of accomplishment up and down through your body 3 times.
5. Remember a time when you were laughing so hard you could barely stand up. Pick a time when you just completely lost it. Again, fade out the imagery and breathe the feeling of wild laughter through your body 3 times.
6. Remember a time when you felt loved, safe and loving. Fade the pictures and hold onto the feeling. Take it down the feet and breathe it through the body 3 times.
7. Try to take all three of these feelings – pride of accomplishment, wild laughter, and love – and move them through your body. Continue with this as long as you want.
8. Memorize the feeling and try hold on to it after you open your eyes. This is a great exercise to perform in the morning before work or school or before you engage in other forms of meditation and energy work.

Interpretation

You should practice the Secret Smile daily until it becomes natural to everything you do. Internalizing feelings this way can help make you calm, cool, confident and happy. You increase the feelings with a little research into NLP submodalities. If you’re having a hard time coming up with any positive memories, then use your imagination: what would it feel like to fall down laughing, to be loved, to be recognized for your achievements. If you use your imagination, make sure you step out of your eyes and see the imagery as if you were watching a movie of yourself. This gives your mind something to shoot for. See yourself as happy, confident, and loved. Powerful, positive thinking has been linked to better health and the secret smile internalizes those emotions so you don’t have to think happy, you just feel it. Remember, we feel before we think.

Getting the Energy from Your Food

Administrator May, 2006

We all know about the necessity to eat right, and strive to do so as often as possible. Yet, many of us occasionally slip and go to a fast food restaurant anyway – bad eating habits are hard to change. I had this problem too, until I found out how to make the best out of this unpleasant situation, when I had a craving for something unhealthy. Nowadays, wherever I go, I don’t have to worry about levels of cholesterol or calories, they are all incorporated into the plan.

Many years ago I learned about the Pranic method of classifying food. It turns out that Prana, the universal life force, can be found in abundance in certain products, and in lesser quantities in others. Thus, when we ingest a particular type of food, we obtain from it a corresponding amount of energy. This very logical consideration led me to the idea of charging anything I eat. What if I decide, what kind of energy is stored where, and to what end, I thought, and conducted my first experiment.

A very appealing chocolate bar was lying on my kitchen table, and I simply couldn’t refuse its summons. As I took the first bite out of the delicious German invention, I imagined it having energy of its own, which I resolved to adapt to my needs. I pictured a beam of green light spreading from the chocolate to all of my energy centers. I saw those energy centers in my mind’s eye as revolving spheres, swelling from the green light which inundated every single one of them. I made a mental command to my mind, to use this excess of energy for my daily activities, whenever I feel weaker than usual.

Needless to say, my experiment worked wonderfully. I found strength to do many assignments which I would normally find taxing. My energy reserves definitely increased. But during my next experiment, I thought I should take an additional precaution. I ate something rich in cholesterol, of the bad kind, and decided to compensate for it by exercising further my imagination.

I imagined cholesterol in my body being comprised from little red cells, shaped as circles. I next pictured them drawn form my blood stream towards the energy center that was a little below my navel. This energy center, known in the East as Tan Tien, was, in my mind, recycling the cholesterol cells. They were literally moving through the Tan Tien, and when they came out, they changed their color from red to green, to signify their new function.

Instead of the detrimental job they have been doing in my body, they have become a new form of energy that I gave my brain to redistribute at need. I kept changing more of the cholesterol cells that way, stipulating for the process to end when the cholesterol level was low enough not to pose a danger.

I performed this exercise several times, and then did a similar form of recycling with the sugar levels. I conditioned the recycled sugar cells to supply my brain pathways with the appropriate amount of energy, and seemingly, so they did.

Interestingly enough, when I did my blood test a month later, it turned out my cholesterol dropped 200 points from the high level it previously was. It finally convinced me that my imaginary tricks gave at least some tangible results. Fortunately, these exercises in creative visualization can be tailored to individual needs. You can make them work for you as well, or even better, than they worked for me. Bon Appetite!

*Disclaimer: My system started working for me better with more practice, and it required total belief in the validity of the methods involved. Any doubt might reduce the effectiveness. Don’t try unless you are completely sure it will help.*
