Spellwork Through Poetry, Lesson 5
Lesson 5: Writing Free Verse Free verse is non-rhyming poetry. It is not necessarily easier or better than rhyming poetry, just different. It is just one of the types of poetry under the blanket of non-rhyming poetry and is basically a no-rules free-for-all. We will be looking at one of my favorite examples of free-verse by one of my hands-down favorite poets. Earth, My Likeness by Walt Whitman EARTH, my likeness, Though you look so impassive, ample and spheric there, I now suspect that is not all; I now suspect there is something fierce in you eligible to burst forth, For an athlete is enamour’d of me, and I of…

An Intent of Thanksgiving Is it just me or do other women dread family gatherings for the holidays? It is not that we do not love our extended family, it is just that we are not all on the same page concerning life. You know, life’s big questions like handling money, raising kids and picking spouses. Oh, and there can also be the really hushed page concerning religion, beliefs, and spirituality. Bring everyone under one roof and we are ready to throw our hands up and surrender. I have noticed that with few exceptions most people I know have an eclectic collection of characters within their family. How we approach…

The Crone I decided that as the seasons pass through, that I’ll cover each of the aspects of the Goddess. Instead of covering the Aspects as “Maiden, Mother, Crone” I’ll be covering them in the opposite direction. I believe that to understand the bringer of life, you should also understand the bringer of death, and vice versa; as the two are inextricably entwined with one another. With the end of October is the turning of the season into winter, the aspect of the Goddess for this time of year is the Crone. Without further ado, I bring you the basic information on: The Crone Season: Autumn (dependent on your path)…

Investigation Procedures: Analysis of Paranormal Activity (Part 4 of 5) Any paranormal investigation is only as good as the data collected and how well it is analyzed. Some groups do a lot of their analysis on location as it happens, such as Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab. This has a lot of advantages in that you can quickly determine a course of action, or an area of higher priority. You can also readily debunk claims by being able to recreate activity while still on the site. If you get a shadow figure you can quickly refute or substantiate it by recreating it in the very location at the same time and…

Paranormal Path
Mirrors and the Paranormal Whether a believer in the paranormal or not, there is one item every single one of us has that’s been surrounded with superstition and ghostly stories for centuries, it’s in our homes, our cars, and we even carry it with us. The item I am referring to is a mirror. Perhaps this may have all started in Greek mythology and the story of Narcissus. The story tells of an extremely good looking man who was the son of Cephissus, a river god, and Leiriope a nymph. He was admired by all but would always reject any advances. One day Narcissus saw his own reflection in a…

Lord of Darkness at Samhain
Tonight we call into the well of night. We call the wildness of the void, Asking that acceptance overcome us For life is immortal only because life must die Cernuous, master of the hunt that takes us all And has taken all. He is with us here. He is behind us. He surrounds us. His call comes but is distant. It rises from the shadows and waits. Night takes back all gifts. The night banishes the world. He is the night. As the night he is with us. He is behind us. He surrounds us. His call comes but is distant. It rises in the shadows and waits. His patience…

Myths and Legends:Journeys Through Time
Every year the Earth goes through a series of changes. Where the change begins isn’t rightly known but the beginning is assumed to be Spring; a season of rebirth and new beginnings. Spring is the time when the world wakes up from it’s winter induced slumber and takes on a new look. The tree leaves and flower buds peek at the world around them and decide to be a part of it. The newborn animals begin to learn how to survive and become adults. After spring comes Summer; a season of growth and destruction, of good times and on occasion bad times. Summer is a time of temperment, sometimes Mother…

Rites and Rituals
A Full Moon in November A heavier darkness now eats at both the beginning and the end of the day. The colors of Autumn have fallen and yielded to gray shadow. Spring and Summer drift further away, carried deeper into memory, upon the colder winds that have started to blow. The Full Moon rises over the river, Her bright light illuminating a world laying on the edge of sleep, waiting for the Wheel’s inevitable turn to Winter. Native people called this moon the Beaver Moon for they saw them using the last few days before the ice formed, readying themselves to outlast the impending cold. Others call this the Dark…

Be a Goddess! It has become trendy to tell women to embrace their inner Goddess, but what does that really mean? I think when people tell us to embrace our inner Goddess they want us to embrace things like our divinity, power, confidence, creativity, knowledge, and sexiness etc. It is the idea that we treat and see ourselves as the beautiful divine creatresses that we are. In a world consumed my shallow definitions of physical beauty and female potential this is not always an easy idea to embrace. It came to my attention recently how much I was struggling with this concept in my own life. I went from being…
