    Witch & Popcorn

Bright Blessings Film Lovers! This month, I am reviewing Fullmetal Alchemist, a Japanese live action film based on the Manga books, of the same title, written by Hiromu Arakawa. Here is the trailer for this film. The film is all about magic, and science, breaking the rules, and the consequences of doing so. The film follows the lives of brothers Ed and Al, beginning when they were small, and learning Alchemy on their own. Their mother dies unexpectedly, and they try to bring their mom back to life using the little skills they have learned. This was forbidden, and both boys knew this. It could not end well, but these…

Review – 2 Beautiful Calendars for the New Year

We have two calendars to review for the New Year: The Day of the Dead 2019 calendar and A Magickal Year 2019 calendar, featuring beautiful artwork by visual artist Lilla Bolecz (https://lillabolecz.com). Both are 16-Month calendars going from September 2018 through to December 2019. Day of the Dead 2019 Calendar Day of the Dead 2019 calendar is a glossy calendar featuring Mexican Day of the Dead sugar skulls in various designs and colors. The colors are vivid and alive and patterns are varied enough throughout the calendar that no months look alike. I can get picky with sugar skulls and it often takes me a while to find one that…

Review of Coloring Book of Shadows: Planner for A Magical 2019 by Ami Cesari

Review Coloring Book of Shadows: Planner for A Magical 2019 by Ami Cesari I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the beautiful “Coloring Book of Shadows-Planner for a Magical 2019” from the author Ami Cesari. I have had both her planner and her magical coloring books in the past and have always thoroughly enjoyed them. I am an avid colorist and a fan of planners, so this combination of the two was right up my alley! There are two styles available of this book, both a regular bound book and a spiral bound option. I personally prefer spiral bound, as for me I like having the ability to…

Book Review – The Little Book of Saturn by Aliza Einhorn

Book Review The Little Book of Saturn Astrological Gifts, Challenges, and Returns by Aliza Einhorn Even those who don’t know a lot about astrology cringe when Saturn is mentioned. Often thought of as bringing bad luck, challenges, loss and constriction, it has been called the Greater Malefic. What Aliza Einhorn does for us in her wonderful book is to show us Saturn as an ally and a teacher, the cosmic alarm clock that tells you to “wake up! Get up…don’t be late.” Don’t miss this opportunity to find out what you need to do to become true to yourself! Saturn will point out where we have strayed from the cosmic…

Beating the January Blues: Excerpts from Every Day Magic Edited by Lucya Starza

January blues refers to that unsettled and unhappy feeling after the holidays are over. The joy and excitement have come and gone, and now there is nothing to look forward to. Of course, Imbolc isn’t so far away, so as a Pagan it’s probably a bit easier to cope with! But winter depression and SAD can affect anyone, so it’s important to keep an eye on your mood at this time of year and try and do something positive if you feel yourself becoming anxious or feeling low. Here are some excerpts from a book I contributed to which has magical tasks for every day of the year. Every Day…

Review of Ritual Bath Salt by Nuit Apothecary on Etsy

Ostara Ritual Bath Salts by Nuit Apothecary on Etsy I received Ostara Ritual Bath Salts by Nuit Apothecary. It came nicely packaged in a black bag, with a pretty label explaining what it was. It’s made with Dead Sea salt, Epsom salt, prairie lily, red clover and essential oils. As someone who adores taking hot baths, I was looking forward to trying this salt out. I ran the tub and sprinkled some in. It had a nice scent and the salts dissolved well in the hot water. There were plenty of herbs floating around in the tub. The scent was not as strong as I would have liked and what…

Book Review – Working Conjure: A Guide to Hoodoo Folk Magic by Hoodoo Sen Moise

Book Review Working Conjure A Guide to Hoodoo Folk Magic By Hoodoo Sen Moise Due to the fact that, in all honesty, I say I know absolutely nothing about Hoodoo, I was pleased to see that the first chapter was entitled, “What is Conjure/Hoodoo?” The author explains the when, where, how and proceeds to tell us of Hoodoo’s principles in chapter 2. I love the explanation of how “Conjure was birthed out of a need to overcome the oppression of slavery. It was a way for the slaves to turn the tide against the slave masters and take back, at least in some way, what had been taken from them.”…
