Cosmic Flow: A Creative Guide to Harnessing the Rhythm of the Moon by Nikki Strange is a journey through the eight (8) phases of the Moon’s cycles. The book is separated into these as eight sections and provides the reader with bite-size pieces of information. The journey begins with recommendations about how to make use of the book and the basics of the Sun and Moon’s energies. A nice little chart is offered that outlines the astrological signs and how these express themselves as your Sun sign and Moon sign. These sections offer opportunity to write your own keywords expressing what you sense of Sun, Moon and the four alchemical elements expressed by the astrological signs.
Having set the stage for diving into the specifics of the Lunar energies, information about each of the phases of the Moon and suggestions for setting up altars to the Moon, moon gazing and intentions flow organically into the next sections. The structure of Cosmic Flow: A Creative Guide to Harnessing the Rhythm of the Moon is one that engages the reader to actively participate in the journey. Ample writing prompts and opportunities to sit in reflection, color, sing and more flow throughout giving the feeling of this title serving double duty as both informative and as a space of journaling.
Without reading the author’s biography you have a sense of an artistic and creative flare in the style and imagery of the book. Unlike many plain and graphically sparse readings, this book inspires your creativity in its look and style of writing.
There are some unexpected alignments and points of resonance that can be made as the reader goes through the meticulous process of recording the experience and sensation produced by each of the eight phases. Enough basic information about the particular phase is given to provide the reader with an understanding of the flow of the lunar cycles one into the other. This makes it easy to also bridge the connections as you journal, create and weave your own personal style of magick in communing with Mother Moon.
Would I Recommend:
Cosmic Flow: A Creative Guide to Harnessing the Rhythm of the Moon by Nikki Strange is a lovely little introduction towards expanding your connection to all of the phases of the Moon; not simply the traditional Esbats of celebration. Using this journal would definitely give you a bigger picture of your own place in the cycles of the moon and the effect they have on you at each step of the way. And, with that being said, sometimes the books that stimulate the greatest self-awareness and growth are not the densest, longest or most difficult to digest.
