Weyland’s Whey, 2024 Litha/Dyad Moon Column
“In Wicca, rituals are ceremonies which celebrate and strengthen our relationships with the Goddess, the God and the Earth.”
–Scott Cunningham
Doubleheader
Say it “LEE-tha””. (Don’t fret if you’ve had it wrong for years, I just learned how to pronounce it last week.) I prefer the name Midsummer, cause to me it just sounds cooler. Either way, this Summer Solstice Sabbat celebrates the year’s longest day. The focus is usually on the power of the sun.
This year’s Litha overlaps the June esbat. To me, that definitely adds another layer to the celebration! I plan to do a Sun Salutation in the morning and a Full Moon circle at night. One of the names of the June full moon is the Dyad Moon, derived from the Latin word for two or pair. This could also suggest a partnership between Sun and Moon, a facet I plan to acknowledge.

MUSIC Review
Inkubus Sukkubus
English goth and pagan rock band. They’ve been around for decades (since 1989). The group has been called a zombie version of Fleetwood Mac. I don’t know about that, but it’s a great quote from journalist/author Mick Mercer. They used to spell their name Incubus Succubus but changed it for numerological reasons in 1995.
I like their music. I even played it in a meditation exercise Mihos and I did a couple of times.
In June of 2017 the group hosted a weekend celebration of Midsummer at St. Briavels Castle in Gloucestershire.
Feliz Litha!
