    MagickalArts

We are entering a time of light and color as the weather becomes warmer and summer is close at hand. In honor of this burgeoning warmth, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the basics of candle magick, employing the use of color for magickal workings and the metaphors of flame and fire, Light and Season… Enjoy.. Candle Magick 101   Candle Magick makes use of the properties and energies of a candle, color, etc. to direct the focus of energy towards a desired outcome. It is for this reason that candles are used in High Magick and Ritual workings. They become the physical representation of…

Book Review: To Suffer a Witch by Claudia Hall Christian

To Suffer a Witch by Claudia Hall Christian   This book was written by Claudia Hall Christian. Now, I haven’t read anything by her before, but I can tell you right now that will change. I really loved this book. This is the first work of fiction that I have written a review for and I will make sure not to spoil anything. To suffer a Witch has great characters that I came to genuinely care about. It’s all about some people that were hung during the Salem witch trials in 1692. But, twenty of them came back as immortal witches. You do learn a lot of what happened to…

Interview with Author Lucya Starza: The Bad Witch

Lucya Starza: The Bad Witch   Lucya is the author of the very popular Pagan Portals: Candle Magic, which has now spawned a series of workshops. Lucya also has a ‘bad witch’s blog’ which I hoped she would be able to tell me more about… What inspired the name of your popular blog, badwitch.co.uk? The name A Bad Witch’s Blog was inspired by the book How to be a Bad Birdwatcher, about birdwatching for people who only know how to identify normal garden birds. I wanted to get better at being a witch. I had been a witch for some time, but wanted an incentive to do more witchy things and…

Interview with Author Rebecca Beattie: Nature Mystic

Rebecca Beattie: Nature Mystic   Author of Pagan Portals: Nature Mystics, Rebecca is also a regular contributor to the UK’s premier Pagan magazine, Pagan Dawn, and is in the process of writing another book called Urban Nature Mystic. I had the chance to find out a bit more about Rebecca, and about nature mystics. Tell us a bit about Pagan Portals: Nature Mystics. Who are Nature Mystics? Spiralled Edges

Spiralled Edges – Disconnection A persistent sinus congestion that has rather overstayed its welcome moved into my middle ears last week. I’m not deaf, I can still hear, but everything is somewhat muted. It has left me feeling cut off from most of the world around me though, or at least from the sounds in the world. This in turn has caused me to have trouble focusing, and has made following conversations near impossible.   I tell you this, not to garner sympathy, but because it reminds me of a discussion that I had this week about ways of re-establishing our connection to Spirit when we feel disconnected. For those…

    Stones Corner

Stone Color Symbolism Stones have many uses.  They  can be used for divination, meditation, healing and magic. You can keep your stones in a cloth bag large enough to fit your hand into. If you have an affinity for a certain stone or its color you can wear a ring or a necklace setting of that color or type of stone. You can also place stones in medicine bags to carry in your pocket or to place around your neck. If you know someone who does jewelry or lapidary work, you can have the specific stone of your choice mounted in a ring or necklace setting. This is a brief list of what each color symbolizes: White:   Spiritual guidance, being…

    Short Story: Kiara, Episode 9

Kiara, Episode 9 Annabelle appeared as Matron was having breakfast. Matron rang down for another serving for her adopted daughter, despite her protests about not being hungry. Matron had never been a soft person, but the noisy child with a head full of butterflies had somehow found a caring place in her heart, that even she had never known existed. The child’s arrival, – and the callous instructions to dispose of her, had begun the rift between the matron and the goblin which had led to the events of last night. Matron smiled as the child chattered away gaily. She was obviously totally unaware of the events of last…

She Who is All – The Goddess of Ten Thousand Names

Gaia “Gaia, the beautiful, rose up, Broad blossomed, She that is the steadfast base of all things. And fair, Gaia first bore the starry heaven, equal to Herself, to cover her on all sides, and to be a home for the blessed gods” ~~ Hesiod, Ancient Greek Poet In the beginning, there was Chaos — and then, Gaia rose. ********************************************* (Photo credit: Pinterest) There was no shape, no boundaries; chaos coalesced into our Mother, Gaia, the Earth beneath our feet, Great Mother of us all, complete within Herself. Before Time, there was only She. Time, named Chronos, was her child, but she was lonely and felt desire. She created Uranus,…
