The Enchanted Cottage: Magick for the Witch’s Home
To Protect the Witches Home “We will set to work on that” said Hansel, “and have a good meal. I will eat a bit of the roof, and though, Gretel, canst eat some of the window, it will taste sweet.” Hansel reached up above, and broke off a little of the roof to try how it tasted, and Gretel leaned against the window and nibbled at the panes. Then a soft voice cried from the room. “Nibble, nibble gnaw, Who is nibbling at my little house?” The children answered, “The wind, the wind, The heaven-born wind,” and went on eating without disturbing themselves…. Shadowfest
As I close my eyes and breathe in the rich scent of Autumn, my mind turns to those I have loved and lost. Those who have traveled on to the Shadow-Lands. Shadowfest, or more commonly known as All Hallows Eve and Samhain, is fast approaching. This is the Season of the Witch, but most importantly, the Season of Spirits. The veil between this world and the Un-Seen (Other-World, Shadow-Lands, Elphame, Summer-Lands, Avalon, Annwn, Elysium Fields, etc.) is thinnest at this time of year. Spirits, human and non-human alike, roam the Earth reaching out to those who are willing and able to acknowledge their existence. One of the most…

The Not So Dumb Supper or Dinner of the Dead
(image found at–http://maisonboheme.blogspot.com/2013/10/ghoulish-halloween-dinner-party.html ) As the sacred night of Shadow-Fest, also called Samhain, Halloween, and All Hallows Eve, draws near I find myself being drawn closer to the Mighty Dead and my Ancestors. As the veil grows thinner across the lands, it becomes easier to connect with our beloved who dwell in the Lands of Shades and Shadows. Many Witches and Pagans hold festivities and rituals on this most holy of nights. One such ritual tradition is the sacred dinner called the Dumb Supper. Once popular in parts of Ireland and Great Britain, the Dumb Supper is a meal eaten in silence with empty chairs and plates…

Finding Avalon
Under the Midnight Moon Dancing lights, twinkling lights Around the come again Dancing in circles, in spiral circles The Faery dance of yore They come, they go They circle about They call your name to them “Come dance with us, come play with us Under the Midnight Moon”. ~Vivienne Moss~ I find myself standing under the full moon, majestic in all her luminescence. A gentle breeze caresses my bare shoulders, peppering me in goose bumps. The night air has an unnerving feel about it, causing me to look about in trepidation. A soft melody permeates the quiet darkness; I am certain I hear panpipes and the most enchanting of…

Finding Avalon
Tangle-wood Photo by Vivienne Moss As I walk along the moss covered earth, I find myself lost in thought. The worries of my mundane life slowly fall from my shoulders as I soak in the rich scent and the sweet sound of Nature. At times I feel like an imposter among the untouched trees of the forest. But not today. Today I feel connected to the wooded land I find myself in. Tendrils of Willow reach out to tap me on my shoulder, reminding me to wake up to the wondrous world that I am blessed to be a part of. This is that magical moment I have…

Finding Avalon
Un-Seelie’s Playground Photo by Vivienne Moss The beauty of Faery and Avalon can be found in the most unlikely of places. What one may find disrespectful and horrid, another will find unexpected charm. When I discover places like the picture above, I always wonder what kind of Fae lives there. I imagine some of the Un-Seelie Court inhabit this wild habitat. Rebels and misfits will feel right at home here. Those who don’t fit in with typical society will find the uncanny nature of this place welcoming. The Un-Seelie are those who make their own rules and break the ones they see as being ridiculously restricting. They are not…

The Path of Enchantment The icy breath of Winter surrounds me as I make my way down the Path of Enchantment. Branches, heavy with freshly fallen snow, glisten in the noon-day sun.
