We received a lovely Gemstone Offering Kit to review at PaganPagesOrg from Sacred Mists Shoppe and I thought it looked like so much fun I would invite someone new to the Craft to enjoy it with my old Crone self. Get another opinion, from young eyes, as well. The Gemstone Offering Kit from Sacred Mists Shoppe includes one pound of a mixed lot of offering gemstones (that is a lot!), a hand-rolled mini power candle made of beeswax, a mini sage smudging wand, two elemental matchsticks, instructions on what to do, and a free gift of an incense stick. Interview & Review – Laura Tempest Zakroff: Sigil Witchery

A Book Review Sigil Witchery (An interview with Tempest follows this review.) It was very serendipitous that as this book was coming up for review, I had just registered to take a workshop with Tempest based on this very book. The word “sigil” means “seal” or an action/word of a spiritual nature. I would hazard a guess that most of us have seen sigils that mean specific things, written and drawn by others. Tempest brings sigils to us in a more personal way, with the sigils drawn by us, to have meaning to us, specifically. She simplifies it for us, while never detracting from their power. Before doing this, she…

Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times

Celebrating the Old Ways in New Times For Imbolc February 2019 Bright Blessings! Oh my, did the Winter Hag hit us last night. In Central Ohio we got I don’t know how many inches of snow- which would be fine- except we got solid ice underneath it first. I can’t walk my dog in certain parts of the grass or we will slide away! The plows, salt trucks, and sidewalk clearing is in full swing. I only had to shovel my front stoop, as a neighbor shoveled the walk before our helpers got here. Not bad, but I am aching all over- as it’s only 8 degrees, and my body…

    Wreathing the Wheel

Imbolc, the Seed, and Growing Abundance Imbolc has long been a sign of the beginning of the end of winter. In many parts of the world, this is the time when seeds that have long laid in the deep belly of the earth at least start to spring forth with green shoots. Accordingly, seeds wind up in Imbolc cakes, the white and new green of the young shoots is associated with the Sabbat, and even the name of Imbolc means “in the belly,” referring to the pregnancy of ewes, and the seeds in the earth. This year, I’m trying to embrace prosperity and grow abundance as my way of celebrating…

    Mindful Meditations

Guided Meditation This month we have an Imbolc meditation that is meant to help you connect with yourself around the three areas Brigid governs: Hearth, Forge and Inspiration. So light a candle in Brigid’s honor and let’s dive in! Find yourself in a comfortable position. Take a deep breath and as you exhale, close your eyes and begin to relax into yourself. See yourself walking down a path in a winter forest. Notice the quiet beauty all around you. As you wander through the woods, think about how this winter has been for you so far. Do you have the winter blues or do you love the peaceful quiet of…

    Lick the Sky

It’s Imbolc And I want to Lick the sky Those fiery stripes Must surely be As sweet as sunrise ice. The blackbird nods Tail bouncing on the wall Of a run down council house. The Honda Prelude that Cuts me up Is a square assed snap chat Of the past And the wind turbine Crazy in the cruel bite Of winter’s last stand Is a bright spark of Future hope. It’s Imbolc And I want to Grasp the earth Bulbs tickling my cheek With first new shoots Reach out with great Goddess hands Surround the sky And lick. *** About the Author: Mabh Savage is a Pagan author, poet and musician,…

    Notes from the Apothecary

Notes from the Apothecary: Cumin Cumin is a fragrant spice in the apiaceae family, meaning it’s related to carrots, parsley, and the similar looking caraway. We use the seed of the plant in both cooking and magic. Cumin has been used for thousands of years, and most likely originated near Syria, based on evidence from nearby excavation sites. Cumin was a table spice in Ancient Greece, a tradition which continues today in Morocco. The Romans adopted the use of cumin, and Spanish and Portuguese colonists eventually brought the spice to the Americas, where it is enjoyed in a range of cuisines. The Kitchen Garden Cumin is one of those mesmerising…
