HearthBeats: Crafts from a Kitchen Witch

Hey Guys and Gals.. I am sending out some crafts and ideas… Thought it might be interesting for Samhain Besom You will need: 4ft dowel- 1″ in diameter or a tree branch of the same approximate size, ball of twine, scissors, straw, thin willow twigs, broom corn or pliable herb stock. Take the straw or other herb stalk that you have chosen and soak overnight in luke warm salted water. The water swells the stalk slightly for bending without breakage, and the salt dispels former energies. When ready, remove stalks from the water and dry for just a bit. Not too much or the stalk will stiffen up, again. Place…

Letting Go Merry Meet all, and I hope you have all had a happy Blessed Summer in the Northern Hemi and Winter in the Southern Hemi… Recently I have had to look deeply into my heart to deal with something I never thought would be hard. Letting go… of my son. Not in death.. but in life.  Growing up and growing away. As they grow..  They become independent, strong, opinionated (very) and educated. But we as parents do not grow the same way. We create this life, nurture it, hold it, teach it, and bandage it… but never do we think we will be cut off from it. But cut…

Pets and hot weather For many of us this is our favorite time of year and a chance to have fun outdoors with our pets. The Humane Societies want Pet owners to enjoy this time while being mindful of the dangers that hot weather can pose for our Furbabies. Dogs primarily control their body heat thru panting and drinking cool water. In extreme heat, it can be difficult for pets to cool off and overheating is a serious danger. On very hot days, pet owners should always be aware of their pet’s condition. Immediately stop strenuous exercise if pets start excessively panting, drooling or appear weak. You should take these…

Bullying Is your child safe at school.???  Maybe, maybe not. Bulling is a huge problem in schools today, whether you are in North America , Australia, or some little island somewhere. Children, teens , tweens and even adults seem to be ok with bullying their way through life. And many are pushed around, yelled and cursed at, physically, emotionally and spiritually harmed. Recently my 13 year old daughter has been caught in the bulling web. She is no angel, but she is a pretty good kid, respectful of the karmic balance and knowing that what she puts out there: good or bad, will come back at her, so she is…

HeathBeats: Notes from a Kitchen Witch

Merry Meet and Blessed May to you all… As I have in the past I will be writing about something that others may not be… I will be writing today about the darker side of the Goddess. I have been researching her many faces and have become fascinated with the little understood Hecate and Kali. When you look at them they may seem vastly different from one another but in reality they are very similar. Both are feared as dark and mysterious Goddess with many fearsome attributes. But in reality they are nothing like recent history has portrayed them as. Hecate… Greek goddess of the three paths, guardian of the…

Basic herbs We all need to have some basic herbs in our pantries. Not for magickal uses only. But for flavoring our foods as well… I have chosen the following herbs that I feel are Basics that I MUST have in my kitchen, and I will give the food and the magickal info on them, as I know it and can research it. Hearthbeats: Notes from a Kitchen Witch

Spring solstice is past.. and we are preparing to plant or preparing to settle in for the winter in the Southern Hemi.. I want to start this month with a poem I received.. I know not the author.. but it was lovely BLESSING THE EARTH FOR PLANTING ~ O gentle Air, we do come before Thee To ask that your gentle tender breezes kiss The plants that will come forth. O fearful Fire, we do come to ask that Your hot heat be but a gentle warmth To help the plants grow. O Water of Life, we do come before Thee To ask your gentle waters to bring life To…
