Book Review – Taking Up The Runes by Diana L. Paxson
Book Review Taking Up The Runes by Diana L. Paxson Publisher: Weiser Books 421 Pages Publication date: This edition December 2021, Originally Released 2005 This is one of those re-releases of a well-loved book that’s garnered classic status over the years. Released as part of the “Weiser Classics” range, it’s very telling that the book still ranks highly in all the charts it’s listed in on the major online retailers. I’d not come across Diana’s work in the fields of Paganism or Heathenry before, and was surprised to learn that she is a truly prolific author with many works of fiction published plus several volumes on Asatru and…

Road to Runes
Reconnecting to Spirituality I recently had to write a little bit about divination for the Pagan Federation, and I realised that my regular practice had become, well, not so regular. For many months, I was drawing a card or a rune daily, and even taking an in-depth course on Ogham with the Irish Pagan School. However, I’d allowed myself to become bogged down in “day job” work and other commitments, and wasn’t utilising the tools at my disposal. What better prompt to get back into my journey learning the runes than this! And, what better question than, “How do I reconnect to my spiritual practice and ensure I’m not…

Road to Runes
Road to Runes: Ehwaz – A Journey in Trust I finally got a new set of runes. In fact, it’s one I’ve had for a long time that I was going to sell, years ago, but for some reason have clung onto. Now I know why! It’s a set of carnelian tumble stones (rocks shaken in a tumbling machine until they are smooth) each inscribed with one of the Elder Futhark. I don’t go in for a whole lot of crystal magic as mining crystals has a lot of negative impacts on the Earth and the people involved. However, I also don’t waste what I have, and these are…

MagickalArts
What Are the Magickal Arts? … As magickal practitioners we are all “artists” in our own ways, honing our skills of creating magick, weaving patterns of energy that affect change and calling to the most Divine of our natures as we align with cosmos, greater earth and all of the many Beings that inhabit those realms. And, I like where this trend is taking us in exploring the craft in all of forms…. Let’s continue honing our skills as we explore the Art of Divination… When we hear the word “Divination” it usually conjures up a picture of the gypsy fortune-teller who will predict your future love interest,…

Road to Runes
Nauthiz – Need and Sacrifice As part of my ongoing journey to understand more about the runes, I’ve decided to go totally random and use a rune generator rather than my physical set of runes. I’ve fallen out with these runes for personal reasons, and I do have another set but I don’t feel like I’m attuned to them yet. As frustrating as this purgatory-like stage is for divination purposes, it’s the ideal opportunity for getting some straight up learning in without questioning my own abilities or biases. The rune generator I’m using is ifate.com which I also chose at random after a quick Google search. This month I’ve…

Book and Deck Review – Soulflower: Plant Spirit Oracle by Lisa Estabrook
Book and Deck Review Soulflower: Plant Spirit Oracle by Lisa Estabrook Publisher: Findhorn Press 44 card deck and 176 page guidebook Publication Date: March 29, 2022 “The one big truth that I most wish to share is that we already have, and always have had, everything we need to be happy, to be whole. We are not broke; we are simply disconnected from our hearts and the truth of who we are,” Lisa Estabrook writes in the preface. She had lost her way in the culture of constant action, separation, scarcity, and elusive goals such as success and happiness. To begin listening to her heart and soul again…

Tarot Talk
Comparing The 9 of Pentacles & The Empress This month, we will examine two cards that seem to have similar messages, with the intention of discovering more subtle meanings. We will mix the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana as we compare The Empress and the 9 of Pentacles. First, let’s review some terms. If you’ve read my column before, you can skip the next two paragraphs. There are 22 Major Arcana cards in a Tarot deck, with numbers from 0 to 21; the Majors usually deal with broader and more far-reaching life experience issues, archetypes that are easy for us to identify with and connect with at…

Spiritually Based Card Readings with The Gaelic Lenormand by Diana Clark
My interest in learning Lenormand began early on. At the age of fourteen, I began reading Lenormand cards — cards that were passed down through several generations from the German side of my family. I feel fortunate to be part of a card reading lineage – a continuation of a legacy of mystical women. Since those early days of reading, I have increased in wisdom and spiritual awareness. From where I now stand, the importance of Divine Spiritual connection deepened my ability and is immersed within my reading style. I am based outside of Seattle Washington, with a clientele that spans the globe. I describe myself as…

Oracle Deck Review – The Wild Unknown Archetypes Deck & Guidebook Created and Illustrated by Kim Krans
Oracle Deck Review The Wild Unknown Archetypes Deck and Guidebook Created and Illustrated by Kim Krans Publisher: HarperOne 78 Cards Deck. 224 Page Guidebook Publication Date: October 15, 2019 Kim Krans is already quite popular in the Pagan community as the Creator of the best selling Wild Unknown Tarot deck. If you’re not familiar, The Wild Unknown has taken the world by storm. I love the art, though I have not worked with it personally, it never called out to me. She also has an animal spirit deck, which seems to accompany the Tarot deck very well. Neither of them called out to me. They’re both very beautiful…
