Book Review – Keeping Her Keys: An Introduction to Hekate’s Modern Witchcraft by Cyndi Brannen

Book Review Keeping Her Keys An Introduction to Hekate’s Modern Witchcraft by Cyndi Brannen 272 Pages   It feels right to write this review in November (for December’s PaganPagesOrg), a month when Hekate is celebrated by many. Cyndi Brannen’s Keeping her Keys is an introduction to Modern Hekatean Witchcraft. It’s not just a book, but a workable course which leads to the possibility of self-initiation. One of my favourite things about this book is the “You do you” attitude. Although there are guides to how to do the work and how to connect with Hekate, there is no authoritarian overbearing message of exactly how to go about this. This book…

Review of Buddha Gear – Planting the Seeds of Mindfulness

It was so much fun to receive this headband from Buddha Gear to review. Buddha Gear is Joy and Jason. Joy designs and sells hats, and has been for over 12 years. Book Review10-Minute Crystal BallEasy Tips for Developing Your Inner Wisdom and Psychic Powersby Skye Alexander 208 Pages     In one of the previous issues I had the opportunity to review Skye Alexander’s book, Magickal Astrology: Use the Power of the Planets to Create an Enchanted Life and thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity, yet complexity provided in a compact book. Book Review The Weiser Book of Occult Detectives 13 Stories of Supernatural Sleuthing Edited & Introduced by Judika Illes 320 Pages     I confess, when I first heard about this book, I thought it was a book about true crime – stories in which crimes had been solved by calling in psychics and other occult professionals. Book Review – The Last Priestess of Malia by Laura Perry

Book Review The Last Priestess of Malia by Laura Perry 520 pages     I’ve read some of Laura’s other works before, such as her fascinating work on Minoan spirituality. I’d also very much enjoyed her ghost-love story, The Bed, which is a fantastic example of “Witch Lit”, an exciting genre of magical writing. The Last Priestess of Malia is on a completely different level. I feel like Laura has emerged as an incredible world-builder. She’s created a fascinating insight into what the Minoan culture may have been like, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in that world. Aria is a dedicated child of the temple, a priestess whose…

Oracle Deck Review – Arcane Bullshit Fortune-Telling Deck by Evan Doherty

Oracle Deck ReviewArcane Bullshit Fortune-Telling Deck by Evan Doherty Arriving in time to save us from the disappearance of Mad Magazine, the Arcane Bullshit Fortune-Telling Deck is a self-published fortune-telling deck, created by Evan Doherty and funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign. Doherty feels that the tarot world takes itself way to seriously, and that the occult should be less about rules and formalities and way more about creativity and dick jokes. After getting my hands on this beautifully crafted deck and working with the cards, I tend to agree with him. The deck consists of 105 cards, and yes, there are no suits and no Major and Minor Arcana…

Book Review – The Sacred Herbs of Samhain: Plants to Contact the Spirits of the Dead by Ellen Evert Hopman

Book Review The Sacred Herbs of Samhain: Plants to Contact the Spirits of the Dead by Ellen Evert Hopman 216 pages   What a perfect time of the year to review this book! Ellen Evert Hopman has written a very concise book on herbs to use in and around Samhain, and, most likely, at other time of the year, when one wishes to communicate with their ancestors. It begins with a very basic herbal primer – how to know if your herbs are of good quality, how to make salves, tinctures, poultices and more, all things that herbalists know. Part I is “Herbs of the Spirits and the Dead and…
